Great report. I was also at that game in 89. If my memory is correct, our support was one side, on the terrace, and in the seats in the tier above. A few were in fancy dress as well I think. Still, a long time ago so I could be wrong!

Most surreal thing for me, yesterday, was being told to drink in the Student Union bar, then getting a police escort to the ground. £2-a-pint was a welcome treat, though

Not too loud, but in fairness it was a two-bob game for them wasn't it? The Stoke fans we met in the pubs were brilliant, and couldn't have been friendlier - which happily kicked my preconceptions and stereotypes into touch.
