Just seen a few rumours regarding some Stockport players and moves away from the club.
All of these seem to being targetted by teams in better positions than us. Does anybody know anything about these four, and whether it would be unrealistic for us to be targetting them, cheers.

Carl Baker – Stockport to Coventry
Owain Fon Williams – Stockport to Leeds
Johnny Mullins – Stockport to Peterborough
Michael Rose – Stockport to Hartlepool

If all these Stockport players are so good then why are they at the bottom of league 1?

Granted, you often get one or two players in a struggling team that stand out, but 4? If those players are that good then Stockport shouldn't be at the bottom.

I know nothing of Johnny Mullins but Fon Williams is the best keeper in the league in my opinion.
Baker would be an improvement and Rose is probably as good as McNulty.
If Mullins is linked with Peterborough he must be good.

so... what we are saying is....

Fon Williams is better, and younger than Brez and FDM
Baker is better than any other attack minded winger we have? and could play on the opposite side to bennett.

This comment makes me think you know shit all about footy.
Stockport are a team that have had the core of their team ripped apart over the last year losing Dicker, McNulty, Johnson, Blizzard, Dickinson among many others. Just because they are bottom, does not mean they don't have three or four very good players. It is more to do with the fact that half the team being used have come up from the youth team.
Fon Williams is an amazing keeper and I'd be surprised if Baker didn't go to championship.

Dicker wasn't first team regular at Stockport.. Pedantic I know but I'm bored..

I wouldn't say that. Fifty games in two and a half years. Was slightly out of favour when we got him on loan but certainly was a fairly regular first teamer for them.

Well it was a ridiculous comment to make that they can't have four quality players if they are bottom.

OK - So I'm not allowed my own opinion am I?

Besides, the table doesn't lie and the stats speak for themselves.

Stockport only have 2 players that we should considering signing, Fon Williams & Rose and of those, I think we'll probably try to sign the latter.

Again, it's just my opinion...if you don't like it, ignore it!

I just feel really sorry for Stockport supporters. Effectively stripped of their main asset: their ground - & likely to become homeless; spiralling debts; losing their all their decent players; administration with no investor(s) wanting to touch 'em with a barge-pole; possible winding-up order..

Some people round here seem to have very short memories. ???

I don't think that's the case at all...I think 99% of true Brighton fans will sympathise totally with what Stockport fans are going through at the moment.

What they and other clubs in the Gtr Manchester area have got going against them though is that the area has too many professional football clubs and you just have to look at a map of this area to see how many league & conference teams there are around Manchester.

Kids whose parents aren't really into football in the Stockport, Bury & Rochdale area are not going to start supporting lower league teams, instead, they'll go for either of the two Manchester teams or someone like Bolton and those lower league teams just can't compete against the bigger clubs and they've always relied on the very local population for their support.

That's the main difference between us and clubs like Stockport. We've always had the whole of Sussex and in some cases, Kent, Surrey & Hants for our catchment area and if Brighton went out of business you'd have NO professional club in the south east corner of England other than Gillingham. If Stockport went out of business then people would go to watch another team five minutes further down the road. It's sad but it's a fact.

Keeping up the pedantry.. they also lost Anthony Pilkington to Huddersfield, who since leaving, has probably proved to be the biggest loss. Also Tommy Rowe to Peterborough.

I think the points you've made are very valid, but it personally makes me feel very uneasy seeing their last few quality players being snapped-up in the January sales. I know it's the way it is - it being a 'business decision' & all that, but the County faithful must feel like it's another significant nail in their coffin. To think that there are players - who don't even figure in the future plans of their Mega-rich neighbours - who earn enough in a week to have saved Stockport's arses...

Maybe I'm just being overly sentimental, but it makes me sick to the core tbh.

But that's the "big clubs" all over isn't it? I remember a few years back we were collecting money, ironically, for Bury and Albion fans managed to raise more money at Withdean than Manure fans at Old Trafford....That's why when we're a big successful Premier league club playing in the Champions League against Madrid, we should make donations to assist the other teams around Sussex like Lewes.
