Last time we played Stockport on a Saturday a few seasons back the pitch was like a sand pit - seem to remember rugby had been played the previous evening that time as well and it was a bit touch and go if the match would be played after a wet spell - but a few days of dry weather helped!

Sale Sharks have got a game against Harlequins at Edgeley Park on Friday 1 January (k.o 5.30pm). I can't imagine that will help the ground get into good shape.

Harlequins might refuse to play like the last set of Southern Jessies who did a :tantrum:when they saw the state of Edgeley Park. Having said that, everywhere around here is soaked at present.

Stockport-Torquay tie postponed
Tuesday, 08 December, 2009

FA Cup Second Round tie will now take place on 15 December.

Tonight's scheduled FA Cup sponsored by E.ON Second Round tie between Stockport County and Torquay United has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The tie will now take place on Tuesday 15 December, 7.45pm kick-off.

Should the tie go to a Replay, it will take place on Tuesday 22 December, also at 7.45pm.

Hopefully our match will be pay on the day if there is a winner next week. The thought of having to post for tickets right slap bang in the Christmas and holiday season and to get them delivered by the 2nd Jan - would cause a big risk of not getting the tickets on time!

Im really sure its going to be all ticket what with all 500 or so Albion that will make the trip up

Anyone who leaves it till after the tie is played is going to get stung on rail tickets. The cheapest ticket on Virgin was £50 when I checked after the draw was made. If I go, I'll drive and leave the beers till I get back. By the way if it's Torquay, it is much cheaper to use the South West Trains service via Exeter, rather than First Great Western. From Brighton, change at Southampton and Salisbury, or go via Clapham Junction. Buy your ticket just to Exeter, and I think you can get a Day Return, then get another at Exeter. I think I could have saved at least £10 that way. If you book through to Torquay, the ticket is priced by First Great Western, thus considerably more expensive.

The 3rd round tie is up as postponed on Stockport's website. There is only one free midweek for Stockport and I presume Torquay are already playing that day.

Just checked that, they should be able to play next Tuesday. Neither have a game that mid week.

I think you'll find that it is actually the league game on the 2nd that has been postponed, not the 3rd round..

I can remember we had a game scheduled for a Saturday at Halifax a few seasons back. The rugby match on the Friday evening was televised by Sky and most of the pitch was waterlogged or churned up and it didn't stop raining. No surprise that there was a pitch inspection at 9 am and the game was called off but if the rugby match hadn't gone ahead there might have been a chance of the pitch being worked on to make it playable.

In the admittedly wet winter of 2000/1, didn't we call off all home matches at Withdean for about six weeks in advance, after the New Years Day game against Southend (which should never have been played) churned the pitch up badly?
