Can't believe we've got to do this, all because those old, poorly educated idiots didn't listen to us. At least they'll be first to starve to death, then we can have the vote again.

Soylent Green - coming soon to a supermarket near you.

at the end of the day we will sell to them, they will sell to us. we are not going to be embargoed, agree?

No I do not agree. Medicines is one of the tightest regulated industries in the world, for very obvious reasons. If no-deal results in the cancellation of the numerous agreements which are currently in place, and which we all take for granted, then movement of pharmaceutical products, medical devices and supplies will be clearly impacted. To what degree I do not know but the worst case, hypothetical, scenario is no agreement for movement and some sort of emergency measures and it’s my view there is a real chance of this happening in some areas of the medical sector if no deal is the outcome. And until someone comes up with a good argument, beyond flippant and ignorant statements from people who have zero idea about how this tightly legislated cross-border industry works like “they need us more than we need them” or “you can’t tell me cancer drugs will just stop” , as to why and how everything will continue smoothly after a no-deal I will continue to stand by my statement.

I am quite looking forward to a diet of cured sausage and trapped potatoes. Not so much the ensuing cancer that will have to go unmedicated.

As a socialist and internationalist I will not turn my back. I’ll be setting up an air lift to keep my countrymen supplied with essentials like ridiculously named expensive beers, over priced coffee and various other exotic produce to enable instagram-able meals to be created.

Reading this thread I'm getting a sense of what it must be like to live in America with the 'the end of the world is nigh' brigade.
Maybe you should all make placards ? or get out into the sunshine with a beer and stop exaggerating your opinions into absurdity. It is very difficult to take such hysteria seriously.

The UK produces 59% of food it consumes. 41% is imported.

This statistic does not take into consideration exports, much of which would likely return to local consumption if there were issues with Brexit in this way.

If you are to stockpile, it would be sensible to stockpile the luxury foods from abroad which you feel you could not live without. Even a most disastrous Brexit won't see us return to rationing.

Thank goodness for some voice of reason.

They way the snowflakes are talking you’d think people would be starving to death.

It just isn’t going too happen.

In the US they stockpile food for a number of reasons including their own government waging war on them, armageddon and the breakdown of civilised society. Some in the UK, such as those with specific medical requirements aor those that like to eat are stockpiling because of a very real world threat of these supplies being disrupted. We have family members who need meds and we are getting them in now. You are fortunate you are not in that position.

ok, well if you are concerned then you are making a rational decision for yourself. Not everyone shares your concern but if you are wrong then no harm done. This scaremongering propaganda is clearly having an effect on people such as yourself, which is deplorable.

Believe me, I have not been mongered, scared or otherwise. I am a sensible individual who weighs up situations. Now, the situation we are in at the moment is one of uncertainty. When one is uncertain the logical thing to do is prepare for every eventuality. Believe me, I'm not dashing round Lidl with a panic stricken face desperately loading my trolley up with tins of Snaffelschlaps and boxes of Lempscrats. I keep a well stocked larder and I'm just topping up on a few hard to get items that could possibly be in short supply. Nothing mongered about that.
The medicines? Will we get the painkillers etc in that family members need? You betcha by golly wow we will. I'm not expecting th eend of days but just a littl enod to possible disruption. If we don't get any disruption in th esupply of such things, bingo. If we do, we are prepared. Scaremongered? Nah, just prepared, old boy, just prepared.

Do you honestly think 'no deal' means we stop trading with Ireland? The whole point of the exercise (well one of them) is that deal or no deal, we have trade agreements with who we like and that will include our friends in Ireland.

Ireland don't do trade deals, they are EU members so to have arrangements with Ireland we need to talk with the EU.

As a nation of tubbies (myself included) may be a little less food is what's needed. What with all the time we'll be spending in the fields harvesting vegetables that the Eastern Europeans used to pick for us we'll be fighting fit as a nation.

data, cant find it presently though it was $ value. you'd be correct that a majority of medicine and devices are imports, from across the world. at the end of the day we will sell to them, they will sell to us. we are not going to be embargoed, agree?

I assume the manufacturers need insurance, will it cover them still? If there is a defective product, that kills or harms someone, which legal system will deal with the case?

Well it was the relatively young, extremely well educated David Cameron who took his electorate for granted and he certainly won't be starving to death.

No I do not agree.

oh. i dont disagree with anything you put, i just understand that this does not block or prohibit imports, i thought you could see that. if we wanted to totally deregulate pharmaceutical industry, we could have unrestricted medical imports from anywhere (this would of course be bad for non-trade reasons). impacts will be exports to EU and possibly delays, costs, on imports due to inefficient customs process. not outright cessation of all trade in these or other goods.
