Why better for us ? He is out of contract, we won't get anything........

Because he will want more than the next goal keeper we pay.

I don't know how much he is currently on and I don't know what he will be asking.

For arguments sake if he is on £20k pw now and Chelsea are offering £100k, we might be able to offer £50k, but Maenpaa may take £25k. That makes almost a £4m saving over 3 years.

I know it's only hear say but Stockers was on £15k per week, no way would Chelsea be offering £100k per week for a bench warmer.

I didn't know the hear say, but if that is the case with our wage structure it could be that we would max out at £25k. Chelsea could still at least double what we can offer.

It's all hypothetical because we don't know how the system works within the club. But if we have a 25 man squad and they are all on £20k pw, £1m py that's a wage bill of £25m annually.

Piece of cake - Premier League LED pitch side advertising costs the advertisers £30,000 per minute - see article in the Argus

Fair enough, but in principle you cannot have players earning too much more than others.

I don't know what Stephens has agreed to so would we pay Stockdale more than him?

Agreed - does nothing for the team ethic although like any workplace some will be on more than others.

No idea.....guess it's down to supply and demand, individual negotiation and personal preference and ambition much like any other place of work. Stocko could stay with us for far less than Chelsea would pay him because he wants to be first choice, loves the club etc etc, or he could take the money and play the odd cup game, up to him really. Doubt there will be a huge disparity in pay across those that are regular first-teamers with us though, but a much bigger gap to fringe/U23 than there has been up to now.

now we're in the premier league we'll probably have a wage budget larger than £25m. still unconvinced that Chelsea are intrested, they would want Champions League experience to warm the bench instead.

Chelsea, West Ham, Watford Leeds and Palarse are clubs reported in some shape or form. It's down to his agent really to put all firm offers on the table to him and if we were he we'd probably be interested in our stock value. I am sure this won't be dragged out though and it would be good to keep him and Maenpaa. If Maenpaa goes a back up goal keeper could be quite costly too.

Stockdale can earn £40k a week under our PL budget, IF the club haven't got someone else lined up already.

I wonder if he's been given a deadline to sign. I doubt the club will be willing to drag this out too long. I suggest we are a very desirable club for goalkeepers now. No player should play poker with TB.

Stockdale's body language on leaving the stage today certainly suggested he's off. 'David Stockdale we want you to stay' chants were followed by just a couple of waves

Yep, Stockdale is off for sure.
Bruno gave him a massive hug when he collected his medal.
When the fans started singing 'we want you stay' he simply waved back.
Obviously happy to collect a pay cheque and splitters as a number two or three keeper.

I'm thinking people are seeing too much in this, have faith and hopefully he'll sign a new contract with us
