Coming out of the west stand the police tried to separate the fans by directing the palace fans down the ramp and the brighton fans down the stairs.

Great, I get that.

But what happened when everyone got to the bottom of the ramp as everyone headed to the train station/path through to lucraft? The fans came back together mingled and a couple of scuffles broke out.

What was the point? There was no separation as they walked around the stadium, just down the stairs/ramps. What was the idea behind that?

Great idea that. For all those Palace fans not in colours who wanted to remain anonymous (sp) to have to walk down a ramp so everyone would know they were Palace. Nice one old bill!

The old bill got it all WRONG!

Personally I don't think the police got it wrong - the knuckledragging meatheads did. In this day and age there is absolutely no reason why fans shouldn't mingle happily and there is no requirement for the police to be present. At Withdean many matches were police free. Blame the idiots not the police.

If we lived in a perfect world then this is correct, we don't though and the Old Bill cannot be that naive to think that this game would pass without incident.

I agree the police tactics left a lot to be desired througout the whole day and night. To be heaadline news made it out to be far worse than it actually was but this could have been avoided if the police didnt decide to march Palace fans right through the city centre and straight in front of Brighton fans pubs such as Queens Head and Standard etc. They could have either shut these pubs and cleared them or simply not let the Palce fans into the city centre and divert them?

To the shoopers and business's this must have appeared to be far worse than it actuially was. The Palace fans in the escort were taunting the Brighton fans and as much people on here think we live in a perfect world they were hardly just going to ignore them were they? No wonder members of the public were quick to film the scene and alert South today etc. And letting fans out at the same time it really didnt take much to work out what would happen there did it. strange Policing to say the least!

In an ideal world all fans would mingle without any problems but when we play Palace the Neanderthals will always turn up looking for trouble & the old bill should adjust their tactics accordingly.

Put it into perspective. The 1st real test of the policing and there were only limited incidents.

Plus if some people are determined to kick off, then they will find a way.

How about we stop blaming the Police and start blaming the idiots who turned up wanting a fight?

I'm not blaming the police, I just don't understand why they went to the effort of separating the fans for the stairs and ramps, only to let them meet up again at the bottom.

Because there are always idiots who will be attracted to this fixture, and its the police's job to stop them.

But when the police seperate the fans, and then let them join up again 200 yards later, then the police have got to be critised for their handling off it.

All it done was allow the morons to gather together, and then clash at the bottom of the ramp... as they did.

Had the police just allowed people to mingle, the chances are the twats wouldn't of been able to find each other, and all these idiots need their buddies with them to fight, none of them are man enough to start trouble without a little army behind them, so the chances are the groups wouldn't off been able to find each and there would have been less trouble.

The police f***ed it up big time, and deserve to be hammered for it.

And most of them still haven't got on a train home yet......

So some will fight. We agree they're the instigators, not the Police.
But why not keep one set in until the others have gone?
Fact ... this works perfectly at ManU vs LFC, and many other hatred fixtures.
No one gets hurt.
Over to you Sx Police.

Could it be as simple as the risk of serious injury, or worse, being far increased if people scrap on very long stretches of concrete steps?

You don't want people to scrap at all, of course, but on those steps it could be lethal.

I don't think it's fair to blame the police solely on this one. Remember the club were very keen that away fans be treated like human beings not animals. The police have followed their lead and tried to do the same. My personal opinion is that is folly where Palace are concerned. They should be treated like animals.

I think the separation was crowd flow management as opposed to keeping the hoolies apart. If you have one crowd going one way, another the other then opposite sides of the walk way makes sense.
