Stewards at Carlisle were brilliant, friendly when we got there and welcoming (same thing for the locals who offered to take us for a drink). Personally I've not had any problems with the ones at Withdean although being in G block they do seem to pick on the singing stand a bit!

For what it's worth, the two worst bits of stewarding I've experienced were at away games - Southampton and Crewe.

Crewe? I've been there the last 3 years, they're charming fellows the Crewe stewards, I tripped up on a stair this season and one caught me, most greatful I was.

Trouble is that NMH may be right about the stewards version of events, but it is their word against ours. Plenty of 'fans' going to the game can be right knobs and deserve to get kicked out, other times stewards seem to go way over the top. .

well with 5 mins left yesterday i went and stood by thedug out and then got told that i wasnt aloud to stand there. I asked why i could not stand there but the steward got not give me a resonable answer. I continued to stand by the dug out and thn out of no were i got taken away and now apparently could expect a ban i mean what a loud of shiitte!

Without defending anyone ... It's an all-seater stadium. Standing isn't permitted.

I guess this regulation can be construed as applying as much to the running track as to the seating area.

I have had no trouble with stewards but then they probably look at me and think let the senile old ba......d go.

Could understand the age thing if the person was using a concession ticket for an adult which I assume does happen especially during school term time when junior season ticklet holders cannot always go to a midweek game.

and i will hazard a guess the reason our OP was asked for his age was because he seemed pissed and they wanted to gauge how pissed. how old are you or where you from, simply questions to challenge you and gauge your state of mind.

It will take the stewards to sort out their issues with DK putting the pressure on, but don't tar them all with the same brush.

I had a few issues at the start of the season with seating and could not get a response out of the safety officer, despite numerous requests amd Insider forwarding my details on to them....

I'm sorry but I think that IS the point. He wasn't trying to get in on an age-related ticket, therefore the stewards had NO RIGHT to ask him his age. Certainly he was within his rights to withold that information and to question why they wanted to know it. Maybe he was a bit drunk and subsequently got a bit lippy (I don't know as I wasn't there and two wrongs don't make a right), but that doesn't alter the fact that he was the one 'sinned against' originally.

And yes I do think it's sad that we accept these constant erosions of our liberty (ID cards, survielance, excessive H&S rules etc) without a murmur.

On my way to the Northampton game, I'd not had time for my tea so I had a Tescos salad in a carrier bag.

A nice lady steward asked if she could see inside my bag. 'It's only a salad' I said.

'What type of salad is it?' She asked

'Prawn' I said 'it's not a dangerous salad or anything'.

'Is it low calorie?'

'Quite low calorie, I think'

'That's OK then, in you go'

That's about as much trouble as I've ever had at the turnstiles.
