Steven Spielberg's Greatest Film

This was a pivatol moment in the film. When he covered her up and the Man revealed her again it was a statement that they had lost all soul, respect for themselves. Bana has never been better. Its a film about a Man/Men losing their humanity and carrying out an agenda they did not believe in , in the end. Again Spielberg uses the backdrop of the twin towers at the end , in the background with the 2 men saying, where will this all end ?.

Still have Jaws at number one but probably Munich two and Schindler three. I also think Minority Report is an excellent thriller and worthy of note.

Close Encounters is a simply brilliant piece of film-making and deserves more votes here. It's funny, poignant, thrilling and mildly scary in places - well slightly sinister anyway. IMHO he's never equalled it since sadly: the cheap emotion rather took over after that.

Any director who can make the scene with the air traffic controller as gripping as it is, when it's basically a bloke and a computer screen, knew what he's doing. I wish he'd kept his 70s edge.

This film started my love of Spielberg 34 years ago. The Special effects were light years ahead of their time and still look stunning now. The film as a whole was gripping , to me and the fact is I saw it 7 times at the Cinema and probably 40 times now. The music, which we have not mentioned yet, as an integral part of Spielberg's work was one of Williams finest pieces, but for me Schindler's List and ET and a mention for Omaha Beach as below was his finest, For me Close Encounters knocked Star Wars , released at the same time, into a cocked hat in every aspect, although Star Wars. in itself was a great film.

Slightly related- Schindlers list reminded me of a great book I read recently called The Man Who broke into Auschwitz. A chilling true account of someone who swapped places with a jewish prisoner to discover and later expose the truth behind the concentration camps.
