Looks very assured for one so young. Like the way he uses turns to outwit other players without needing to resort to show pony tricks. Strong in the tackle and as evidenced by the clips of him at Stevenage and on the Somme-esque pitch at Rodney Parade he should be able to turn a trick or two on a wet Tuesday in Stoke.

Exactly the sort of player our midfield has been crying out for and i for one would love to see him involved on the bench for the first team. If he's good enough he's old enough etc.

Is he a midfielder or a forward then? The club seem to insist on calling everyone past Lewis Dunk a forward. :lolol:

An undisclosed profit!

Profits a profit at the end of the day undisclosed or not. The lad goes out and plays. If he does well likely he will be sold on again and I'm pretty sure we will pick up a % sell on fee as well.

How good can this kid be if Chelsea didn't want him?

Chelsea have a lot more kudos and money at their disposal. Get them in, add Chelsea to the cv, loan em out and let someone else bring them on, sell them for a large profit without actually spending much time developing them. Maybe they thought they couldn't turn a big enough profit with him, or do it quick enough.

I wasn't scoffing at the profit, just at the undisclosed nature of it! Profits are a lot more fun when you can get your teeth in to the numbers and rub your hands together with glee!

That's what agents think and the reason players are getting more & more expensive.

I hope Orient get decent kick backs from us for potential future appearances, sell on fees etc. Don't like clubs poaching players after a team has spent years developing them.

Steve Cook signed professional papers with us in 2009, and was sold to Bournemouth in 2011.
Tommy left us in 2012 and was sold to Bournemouth.
JFC was sold to Charlton in January 2017.

All making a profit for the club.
So, not very often then.................and I wonder if the fees received actually covered the investment we'd made, wages and facilities, etc. Cook went for £150K apparantly, Elphick for 'reputedly six figures' - so, less than a million then. JFK to Charlton? - probably not megabucks either.
Don't get me wrong - I want us to have a DS, I'm pleased we've got one, and I want them to succeed. But the chances of a youngster being given a run out in the first team, especially an attacker, seem rarer than hens' teeth.

We have always had the odd player come through and make good but with the new academy more will be expected. Going back we had John Templeman, Ian Chapman Brian Powney to name just a few but more will follow.
Adam Virgo and Gareth Barry

Was just pointing out how long ago they were given a chance to break through to our first team. Long time ago.

I agree with the sentiment but it is the nature of the beast. Didn't we do the same with Gareth Barry until Villa popped in and "took a punt" I'm afraid that's what the academy is about other than just nurturing our own early years finds

It's 50 years or more since Templeman and Powney broke through! Chapman, what - thirty years ago?

Never read so much bollocks on here in years. Club obviously trying to invest in the academy with a view to keeping us in the Premier League even if that means selling players on later. Comparing that to the past is irrelevant.

I tell you what though: this Alzate does look a very technically gifted footballer. It's not like he's playing youth team football in that video, where any youngster with a few flicks & tricks can look good against his own age-group peers. He's holding his own against seasoned League Two professionals there, including (one imagines) a few who'd quite happily hoof him eight feet in the air if they could get close enough. Looks considerably different to (for example) Joe Ward or Jonah Ayunga, to think of but two players we've previously acquired from non-league to pad out the Development Squad. Maybe this kid could actually be something quite special in years to come. We can but hope.

Fair point, but I can't recall the last transfer fee in or out that the Albion disclosed, so it's all guesswork.

Agree with this - but just worried that he'll never get near the first team (well, not until about 2021, if we haven't moved him on by then) because he's deemed to be too young.
