Good, thoroughly deserved after the way he stepped up last season, played a pivotal role. Great guy to have in the squad even if he doesn't get so much game time. Looking forward to singing his song a few times when he warms up.

Reckon he'll be bottom of the midfield pecking order. So he had a good season, that was in the championship, He's now a year older on those legs in a far superior division.

What is the fascination with some people about constantly resigning the same players? If we go in to the next season with mainly the same squad we'll go straight back down.

Well considering Kayal had a bit of stop start season due to injuries then yes he proably did have a better season, but a fully fit (MATCH SHARP) Kayal will always be a better option.

Brighton midfielder Steve Sidwell signs a new one-year contract with the newly-promoted Premier League club.

Sidwell made 34 league appearances last season as the Seagulls returned to the top flight after a 34-year absence.

The 34-year-old joined Brighton on an initial loan deal from Stoke in January 2016, before joining the club on a free transfer ahead of last season.

Someone at BBC sport is being paid a bonus every time 34 is mentioned.

I've no issue that we offered him a new 1 year deal, and if we change system for the PL and play 3 across the middle then we do need some more midfielders, but I just hope this is all it is, a backup if we are injury ravaged or for Milk Cup games, or whatever its called now.
