I'm sure I read it in one of the Argus reports during the week.

Found the quote. It's not quite as clear as 'the job's yours', but Knight is clearly a fan...

Knight, now club president, appointed Coppell first time around and believes the time is right for him to return.

“For me the obvious choice would be Steve,” he said. "It would be the last great managerial challenge for him. He knows the club, he helped in the battle for the stadium, so he is part of that culture and history, and we had a great relationship. Because he understands the club he is the perfect guy for the job, if he is up for it.”

It was definitely in the Argus.

Quite a few of us knew about Adams taking over from Wilkins from January onwards, we just thought it inappropriate to post it on the main board.

Too be honest, when I found out In January about Wilkins going, I totally discarded it. It was only after it happened 5 months later, that the person who told me, reminded me he told me, and and it was a " oh f***ing hell yer" sort of moment.

In hindsight, I wish I posted it. Inappropriate or not, had it been out in the open, things may not have panned out the way they did. I still dont know to this day if Dean Wilkins knew it was coming, but if he didn't, I wish I brought out in the open, as that day in May set us back about 3 years, as I did say at the time. Whether he knew or not is something I keep meaning to find out, but never have got round to it. As as many probably know on here, what happened with Dean was totally out of order, and totally different to Uncle Dicks spin on it.

It's the same as I knew about Micky Adams and the Paul Ince situation, and the Russell Slade and Steve Coppell one, people outside the inner most circle of the club should not be finding out about these things, probably before the sacked managers do.

There is something seriously wrong within the club, that so many people found out these rumours, and I really think the club needs to tighten up the way it deals with the way they appoint and sack managers, because simply to many people are in the know.

For the record, the person I get this info from doesn't give a shit if its posted here, as everything he's told me is as he say "common knowledge" to a great many people.

But I do think the club needs to sort out what discussed, and how they handle this type of information, cause someone at the club has a very big ego and mouth, and has the "look at me " syndrome, as they obviosuly blurt out far more than they should.

No doubt when I posted this story 11 days ago, a number of posters on here already knew, and people at the club probably thought... "f*** its out" but I people at the club really need to try harder to keep things in house.

Also makes you wonder what sort of a journilist Andy Naylor is, as it appears most of the football world of sussex knows about the Albion managers, way before he does.

Or, he knows and keeps his trap shut.

Even with hindsight, you were still right to keep quiet about the Wilkins stuff. What purpose would have been served to broadcast it, aside from undermine his role even further?

The stuff you're talking about regarding news leaking out, you make it sound peculiar to Brighton. This happens, in a more widespread manner (in some cases), and possibly with far more reaching consequences at virtually every other club, or indeed in any high-profile business.

No Journo in the sporting world would keep their mouth shut, if he got a scoop like this. This is their job and life. And its clear he gets half his stories from here, so it doesn't appear he has a contact at the club that he would be upseting.

On Wilkins, maybe, but at least the supporters could have made their feelings known.

The last time a promising young manager got f***ed over by the club for an ex-legend manager was in the 80's and Mullery only lasted a few months the same as Micky Adams. That too if I remember correctly was done at the end of the season, so the fans couldn't make their views know to the board in the ground. Too many Chris Cattlin was the closet we ever had to an Alex Fergusson type manager. I still thin if he wasn't sacked, then none of us would ever have heard of Cuntcher and Cuntotti.

That too set us back years, as has Dean Wilkins sacking.

Funny thing is tonight I found out our new number one target, and am not going to give the slightest hint (so please dont ask or PM cause I aint talking). Will he be a surprise, will he not. Is he foreign, is he not. Does he have previous links, does he not. As some have suggested, it's not a look at me thing, as no one has a clue who I am expect for Mr Burns pic, and he's famous enough as it is, so why would I want attention. I only post on here in spits and spurts or when a manager is about to be chopped!!

OK - have you calmed down yet?

Who's the new number one target then? Feel free to PM me...

I'm not sure I agree with you. Naylor has to keep things sweet with the club, and so if he came clean with the Adams reappointment he would have cut off his nose to spite his face.

It was a fairly open secret that Adams was seen regularly observing training, especially during the period that Wilkins was off work for so long in the spring.

I work occasionally for the Manchester Evening News organisation, and the main journos there very much toe the party line, they know that if they upset Fergie then life would not be worth living, so all the juicy titbits are screened out and the reporting is very anodyne.

As for Wilkins sacking setting us back, who knows? It is conjecture rather than fact, and will no doubt remain so forever.

This gets better and better. Haven't read all the other threads so this could be old news but Coppell verbally agreed to take he job when approached.

It was upon talking about finances for the squad, that he was told theres no funds available, and that Bloom feels he's spent enough on the sqaud to get out out of the hole we are in, and that's when Coppell decleared himself out, and probably why Bloom next choice Dennis Wise as declared himself out, and no doubt many others will also not be interested.

So not only was Coppell approached, he accepted he job verbally. Butwho can blame him, if he has to work with the shower of shit that we have out there at the moment

In which case we can still live in hope that having had his bluff called TB may go back with another offer?

or we can just accept that what was posted was not even remotely true
Well, I for one am not sure whether Mr. Burns is "in the know" or not, it's not impossible but I wouldn't put my house on it either. However there were people seeming to be very much under the impression that Coppell was coming that I would put a lot more stock in.

If we have no money for new players (and i think we need 2 or 3 new players) then I think it will be difficult for us to get a "named manager".

IMO we should have keeped Slade. I went to my first game of the season against Harlepool and i thought going forward we were great, although we should have scored about 6 but defencivly we were shocking.

I think Coppell will still come. Bloom will understand that he has top whip out the cheque book for us to really get out of this division.
