Today's odds:

http://readabet.bestbetting.com/Default.aspx?market=10842174

Peter Taylor enters at 33/1, Pardew falls out of the list altogether. John Gregory is even in there at 33/1.

The forefront leaders at this stage are Iain Dowie at 13/8 and Nigel Winterburn at 5/1!!! Bloody hell West Ham are in trouble.

Stuart Pearce at 12/1 looks not a bad bet. Ronnie Moore is at 10/1. Cotterill at 11/2, and Graham at 10/1 too look good.

I am just reporting what the sports journalists I work with said so please note these views are not my own

The journalists who wrote the Coppell story in the Standard is 'Mr West HAm and very very close to the board there'
Winterburn, Pearce etc will not get the job, they want someone with Div one experience who knows how to work on a budget
Pardew is very ambitious and has been eyeing London premiership jobs for a while. The big rumour across the summer was that Curbishly had had enough of Charlton adn that he was off to West Ham and Pardew would go to Charlton, Curbs is now happy and staying but Pardew is still ambitious.

read into that what you will, but my gut feel says that Coppell is actually a decent bloke who has committed for the season and will stay

If Curbishley leaves Charlton to go anywhere, then Pardew will take the reigns. We don't have a problem with that down this end, because it is a step up for him. But West Ham wouldn't be a step up, and hence he almost definitely won't go there now.

Pardew wouldn't take a London Premiership job unless it was Arsenal (!), Tottenham, Chelsea, or Charlton.

Annoying though it is, why would Pardew leave Reading for West Ham?

The Hammers have a decent stadium, a few more fans than Reading, ok a lot more fans than Reading, and that's about it.

Reading have no financial worries, whereas West Ham are up sh1t creek, plus the Royals are undoubtedly a club on the up, as opposed to the miserable big time charlies of Upton Park.

If I was betting on it, my cash would be on Reading for promotion this season ahead of WHU every time. Madjeski will just pay Pardew more to ensure he stays.

Seeing that Stevie doesnt really like alot of pressure then I can hardly see him desperate to join West Ham. They are in the shit big time if they dont go up in the next two seasons.

My exact thoughts, Edna. Thanks for the compliments. West Ham are a massive club in a Division they are worried about being in. We are on the up and will probably never be anywhere near as big as West Ham, but I don't think Pardew is in the slightest bit worried about that.

West Ham and us are joint in terms of the bookies' bet to win the league. Only West Brom above us  Damn scary stuff!
