FFS some people will find any reason to have a pop at Poyet.

Cook was sold because he was barely getting a sniff in the first team at the time, and was good enough to be playing L1 at worst. Dunk was playing superbly, and Greer and AEA were also competing for two spots.

Bournemouth had money and ambition, and took him with a hefty sell-on, so that was that. The decision that we adequate cover had obviously been made, and you can't hold back the career of young players. It's all well and good complaining about it in hindsight, but at the time the mood on here and throughout the club was one of "good player, too good to be 4th choice, so we wish him well". Nothing has changed IMO.
Can't hold back the carears of young players!?!?!? Wasn't he a teenager?

My opinion at the time was Steve Cook should not have been sold as I rated him higher than El-Abd and Greer (as I do/did Dunk), and still consider our defence as a potential weak spot. There is no depth in there at all. Cook should never have been sold, and nor should Grant Hall. Certainly no hindsight.

If we were holding him back, when Liam Bridcutt finally comes back in for Ince, will you be happy for us to sell Ince to the highest bidder so he can play first team football, or would you rather hold onto a player that has just barely broken into the first team and develop their skills further?

I think if someone like around the ages of El-Abd or Greer becomes 4th choice, you move them on as soon as you can. If a 19 or 20 year old is 4th choice and has potential you keep them. Simple.

I agree with you to a point, he shouldn't have been sold but I personally don't think it's time to judge him yet, give him a few years and we'll see if it was a real mistake, I also think you're wrong about Greer he played most games for us last year and we had the best defensive record in the league... Greer is a top quality player.

30% sell-on clause.

How do you know the size of the sell-on clause - I haven't seen it reported in any reputable media outlet? (Not calling you a liar or disputing your information, just curious about the source).

Bitterness and Bile? Like a bit of dramatic over the top posting do you! Anyway I think Dunk might disagree with you there, and also Chris Wood had so much respect for Poyet, he was probably just having a gentle joke with him when he run up to him after he scored a double for Millwall at the Amex last season. And as for Ashley, well we all know he's Poyets Love child. Barnes could even have got sent off twice in quick succession and even lash out a referee and come straight back in after a 8 game ban under Poyet :smile::smile: Oh wait, I was trying to be sarcastic. Ooops

Bitterness and bile? No, just think Poyet is an overrated first class **** who was sacked over a year too late.

But anyway, who cares. We now have a manager who puts the club and his players before his own ego and self interests. Nice

I find it funny that you say who cares but then slag off Poyet so much. Nobody really brought up Gus until you did.

It's really sad that people like you don't accept that he did a very good job. Yes, the end wasn't great and largely down to Poyet but it doesn't mean you have to slag him off as being rubbish the whole time. If you genuinely believe he should have left the summer before then you have no clue about football or watch any games.

As for Cook, if Gus had kept Cook and played (as he wanted in order to stay) and he'd made mistakes, as he would as a young player coming into the team for the first time, I'm sure you would have been the first to say he should have played experienced players. It's pathetic.

Are you stupid? Cook was out of contract. He wanted to go and if we hadn't sold him, he would have left in the summer and we'd have got less money from tribunal. It's really obvious if you don't hate Poyet.

Dunk was linked to prem teams after a run of games at this level. I'd hazard a guess that even now there isn't a great difference in abilities between Dunk and Cook.

What is REALLY sad is comments that people have no clue about football if they disagree with you.

Poyet IMO was very overrated and is extremely limited as a football manager IMO, who landed a plumb job, and who started off very well, no denying that, but by the end was going backwards in leaps and bounds. One of the funniest things about how it all ended was Poyet daring to accuse the club of hitting a ceiling, when it was painfully obvious the only one who had hit a ceiling was Poyet.

It's been done a million times on how he could not get the team out of a rut, or make a change during a game to win a game after conceding first, or how he could not play to players strengths or how managers with weak squads proping up the division could stop us playing and Poyet not have the ability or tactical nouse to do anything about it.

I honestly believe if he was moved on at the end of our first season in the Championship after his second winless streak, and we had Oscar a year earlier, we'd be in the prem.

Its incredible what Garica has done with the injury ravaged squad he's been handed, and dread to think where we would be now if he had the same squad to use as Poyet had last season.

Time will tell, but I think and hope, that Oscar is going to show everyone just how useless Poyet was when he gets a full squad to pick from. I think you will find players playing to their strengths, and not in a system they cannot play.

I dread to think where we would be if Poyet was still here and he had to cope with out injury crisis. Probably El-Abd at right back, Calderon in midfield with Bruno, and Forster-Casky and Ince on loan at Whitehawk, and probably around 20th. But of course he wouldn't be here, he'd have long gone blaming the club for lack of ambition and budget!

And no, you're wrong again, I do not call for experienced players. Far from it. If it was down to me, Cook would be learning of Matthew Upson right now. And as he left, Dunk would be playing alongside our ex-England international, and Ince and Jake would be in the starting line for the foreseeable future, regardless whos on the bench. Ince makes mistakes. JFC makes mistakes. Not calling for them to be dropped.

So you accuse me of making a pathetic comment, that I haven't even made!! mmm I would suggest if anyone has no clue, its you sir.

No need for personal insults mate!! Even you have a time machine to prove this, or you are friends with Steve Cook and know exactly his thoughts and feelings, and dare I say you also have inside knowledge on the tribunal system as you seem to know what fee they would have set. With that sort of information you would earn big money as an advisor to football clubs using the tribunal. And you accuse other people of being stupid. Well wipp our your photo with your bestest mate Cookie, or post a photo of your time machine. Which one is it?

The fact of the sell-on clause was reported in The Argus (reputable source?)

Where's my irony-o-meter?

Bit of a dramatic over the top post don't you think to hijack a thread about Cook to once again whine about Poyet?

More delusional hot air masquerading as fact.

Question was why did we let him go. Answer was Poyet. He like Grant Hall saw no way into the first team, as the club would rather buy/loan than give youngsters a chance.

Sorry but its hard not to mention Poyet is the answer is Poyet.

Fair comment. People who spell whip 'wipp' are clearly very intelligant (sic).
And there we have it. Make a spelling mistake at half past midnight, and its implied you are stupid. How great it must be to live in your perfect world. I really fail to see the mentality of reading a post in a debate, and only being to answer about a spelling error. Must make you feel so special that you are that clever! Well done. Go admire yourself in the mirror again and give yourself a little pat on the head from me, for being so special

The answer was Greer, El Abd and Dunk, who were all ahead of him in the pecking order.

So why did Grant Hall go to Spurs if he saw no way into the first team?
