100% agree, it was almost as if, the referee did it for the attention. Fortunately Jese and Adam arguing over the penalty unsettled Adam and Ryan made a terrific save followed by some serious heroics from Dunk and AK. Team spirit will keep us up.

Seemed to hate Propper too as she wanted them both subbed off!

Haven’t read the whole thread but we are lucky to have him, well done TB for holding out against his transfer at the start of last season. We wouldn’t be as solid without him in the team. Unsung hero who gets a ridiculous amount of stick from some fans.

Can't agree, sorry. Apart from Propper being played out of his natural position, he gets his confidence off of Stephens. He's done a fantastic job, don't get me wrong, but one over Stephens, I can't agree. On a side note, will be interesting to see who the supporters choose as player of the season, must be the most open for many years.

Can’t see past Dunk myself. Literally a 7 or 8 out of 10 every game IMO.

Ryan has done well, but had a shaky start. Gross excellent, but also struggled when we had our little blip.

Nothing silly at all. ,Happens in every game at least 50 times. It's a shocking referee decision. If that is a pen then Kane's goal was a foul also as he gave the Arsenal player a slight push to get the elevation.

The ref is a cock and could have easily cost us points and our Premier league status.

Just because silly tackles happen 50 times a game it doesn't make it right.

Stephens and Propper have forged a wonderful partnership however Stephens main problem is he gives away to many silly tackles and free kicks.

What context are they in if he is committing these fouls?

Have you noticed that the opposition often foul players to stop a break from building, allowing them to get their players back into position (Man City in the first game were always doing that to us, and other teams in this league employ the same tactic) maybe its a part of the same tactic being used to stop the opposition from breaking quickly on us (ie, professional play?)

Or is it like the penalty award, both players grappling and a very soft penalty was awarded as their player threw himself to the ground, conning the ref (or is that Stephens fault again?)

Just my opinion, first I think Stephens has grown into the season and looks excellent in the middle with Propper.

I'm sure he wants to mark tight and not let attackers turn him but within this the slightest touch players go down, these are the "silly" fouls he gives away. Maybe it's naivety or maybe just being beaten by skill.

He was giving those silly free kicks away regularly earlier in the season but I can’t think of many since December also his forward passing and trying to look threatening has improved 10 fold since the start of the season he’s pushing dunk and Ryan for p.o.s now

I'm usually quite critical of Stephens and said before the game thought it should be dropped for Kayal who would be more physical against Stoke but I have to say Stephens had a great game yesterday and proved me wrong .

Agree it shouldn’t have been given, but the Stoke player was running away from goal, away from the danger area, so no need to give the ref a decision to make.

So surely you can argue the opposite of your view, that the player going down at the slightest touch is due to the fact that they are unable to get past Stephens - they are resorting to cheating because they can't beat him by skill alone

I'm a big fan of Stephens. But I do agree with [MENTION=17545]Arkwright[/MENTION] here - Stephens seems to give away free kicks when he tackles players from behind as they're running away from him inside his half despite there being plenty of players left for them to get past. But, no, I don't have any stats either, it's just that you think 'oh no, another free-kick in a place where they can launch a high ball', and it seems to often be Stephens (but then it would be, because that's his position on the pitch). But, he hasn't done it for a while.
