Nothing reckless in the tackle, he won the ball fairly, which makes it much much harder to take.

And even if it was 'reckless' , in the guidance to refs, that only merits a caution. Also needs to be excessive, which clearly it wasn't as he only poked his foot at the ball. The damage was done by the speed with which Gaston's swinging leg connected. Farcical decision today.

I would obviously put Sidwell in Friday and have Holla (DM) in his place on the bench and then Towell (AM) on the bench at home telling both that if he tires and they get on it is their big chance with the retained and released list being prepared.

Holla hasn't been training with the first team squad for a while, it'll be Towell and maybe Crofts but he's injured at the moment.

What a time for Towell to pay his first competitive game for the club if it comes to that( the FA cup game was a reserves match)

I have no idea how good he is by the way

He is. It was a short term loan so he is available unlike a half (full) season loan for Ince, JFC or COG.

Excellent! So Crofts available on the bench Sidwell to start. Much better than I feared.
Anyone know how Crofts has been getting on?

Steve sidwell will not let anyone down. That's not positivity wishful thinking, it's just that he is a good experienced player who will be well up for this.

A subtle change in midfield could do it, play kayal a little deeper, hit wings asap, possibly give ak a free role with lua lua in for baldock.

lua lua for baldock, please.

Most always want to replace Baldock because he doesnt score much, but the shape of the team is always better with him in it, when we dont have the ball we play a 4-5-1 and Baldock drops into Midfield, he's a bit like Emile Heskey was, not very good individually but the team plays better with him in it. Next time you watch us on TV, watch Baldock off the ball and when we defend, not just goal scoring chances in attack

Baldock's role against SW, and if we get there, against (probably) Derby, will be crucial. In each case they play a VERY deep lying midfielder - Bannan for SW, will be Hughes for Derby (in Thorne's absence) - who are very difficult for a centre midfielder to pick up, and who will hurt us if they get time on the ball. This will be Baldock's job - make yourself available when we have the ball, don't give Bannan / Hughes a moment's rest when they have it.

Why are people questioning his stamina? He is 33, not 93.

One good thing about having Sidwell in the team is that he will have experience of dealing with the 'look at me look at me' premier league referees.

If fit Crofts would be ideal to bring into a 5 man midfield at Sheffield to trail Bannon as he is a ball winner who would stop Bannon playing leaving Kayal and Sidwell to complete the midfielders duties. Crofts is past being an effective Championship midfielder but is an excellent man marker/spoiler.

Please forget bringing in Lua Lua for Baldock or indeed anybody Friday.
