You do understand where all these profits (along with the profits from Biss, White, Alimac, Caicedo, Undav, Tross, WBG, Sanchez, Potter etc etc) actually go. They're invested to bring further football success
That's my point... everything is done "for the future"... not so much for now.

And then about "the future" which never seems to materialise:

Mitoma, Estupinan, Pedro, etc. going in the summer because we don't achieve Europe/better offer from "bigger" clubs ... so back to square one. Then we get new promising youngsters trying to play without a solid PL proven core of players. Repeat next year with losing the top players again. Money in the bank and a squad of 57 "promising young talents FOR THE FUTURE".

I won't be happy until we've knocked those Merengues in Madrid off their perch, having won our 16th consecutive Champions League
That would be sweet. I hope the club don't make an Eton mess of it.

He makes it clear that we are a stepping stone as I suspect most of the young talent we recruit thinks. When and how do we change this model or are we happy to be hanging around mid table to european slot range for the foreseeable future?
The goal of the club (as in the hierarchy) is for it to be a "top 10 Premier League club".

As far as I know, that target hasn't changed and, given that Barbs said it was a "a really stretching target" in the above linked piece, the club is arguably punching above its weight. I said when all the players arrived in the summer with the FH that it would be a season of transition and part of one of TB's five-year plans, or similar where there will be ups and downs. He won't panic about this – he's a realist – and will still probably think he's got the right man for the future, who can mould and shape the players in the squad and learn on the job. All that while working within – and respecting – the parameters of the club, which is something that RDZ didn't want to or couldn't do. You could argue Potter did but, like players who attract attention, got a more lucrative, potentially career-enhancing offer and couldn't turn it down. Shit happens but, as it turned out, things were fine. And they will be fine now, too.

So yeah, we are very much a 'stepping stone' for young talent – anyone who doesn't think that is a bit of a mug, IMO. Any player in the Caicedo mould (in terms of ability and value) will want CL football, more money and the chance to play in a 'big' team.

Brighton and Hove Albion can offer precisely zero of those three things. And they won't do anytime soon.

I suppose we have proved that the current model is sustainable for top 10 finishes but have we planned for when/if the wonder kids dry up. The algorithm may not be sustainable even with continued tweaking. Everyone else will probably get better at finding the kids going forward and it would make sense to have a plan B for that scenario. What could plan B be? Staying in the top 10 is very hard to do in the Prem

Well I personally haven't planned for it, but I'm sure (in fact I know) that the club is looking to the future and won't rest on its laurels. PB came out with the line that they are constantly monitoring replacements for key staff and that's just one element of how 'on it' they are. For example, I don't think FH is going anywhere right now, but I can guarantee that TB and co have already got a shortlist of his replacement and his replacement's replacement. The same goes for the players. Maybe they'll be wonderkids, maybe they will be one step up from them – the ability to afford them coming from the money made from the aforementioned wonderkids.

Meanwhile, they've already proved that they are willing to look at new markets for untapped talent, invested in young players that have the potential to make money and sustain PL status and kept spending levels sensible.

"Staying in the top 10 is very hard to do in the Prem" No shit. That's why PB said it was very much an aim, not a formality every season. Last season proved that. And I'm sure there might be times in the future where top 10 isn't achieved (personally, I'm always geared up for relegation being a possibility). But the best thing the club can do is prepare for that. Which I think it is doing. One big defeat isn't going to change that, but clearly it has messed with the minds of a lot of fans.
