Agree with most of what has been said here.... Rib eye, chateaubriand and t-bone are my favourite cuts.

Steak places have improved immeasurably in London over the last few years. Cut is the daddy but probably the most expensive followed by hawksmoor , goodman , flat iron is the best value.

Gaucho has nice interiors but is mid range fare for out of towners/London day trippers !

Would be interested to see what you think of the Bull Steak Expert when you're next out for a slab of beef. It's become my favourite over Hawksmoor now for the steak itself.

If buying steak i would highly recommend long horn cattle. The rib eye is to die for.

Can buy it from this farm shop sure there are others but hard to hunt down.

Also worth trying is http://www.turnerandgeorge.co.uk/ (used to be the East London Steak Company). I went on a steak binge a couple of years ago and tried many (many) different shops; these guys were the best for steak. And their burgers are really nice, too.

Butchers I knew used to eat steak raw in a sandwich. I have no idea what cut the steak was and even though I like rare, I could not eat raw.

Whilst I know my way around most animals I'm not overly experienced in the steak department and me and die Frau are going to a steak restaurant this weekend. There are so many cuts; where does one start?

Sirloin or Rib Eye are the only options. Everything else is a pale imitation. And only the Argies can do it properly.

For me it has to be fillet done medium for that tender melt in mouth buttery moment. The real problem I find is that eating out at even supposed specialist steak restaurant's is often a gamble and sometimes an expensive disappointment. The last great steak I hadlocally was at the Oak Inn near Arlington speedway

A proper Porterhouse ( not a standard T-bone)..... Cooked properly at two speeds( look it up if you need to)....is the best of all worlds, rib eye and fillet in one chunk of meat......awesome......Keens do this very well too.

PL is good in general, but the service is shite.....and I didn't believe the hype on yelp and TripAdvisor about the service being moody and snooty until I went there myself......Keens for me is a notch above in almost every department.....but its subjective as always.

I shall be there again at the beginning of September.....can't wait.

Steak tartare can be fantastic and is another one of my favourite meals. There's a little Brasserie in Tours that my mum is a regular in that makes a fantastically fresh and tasty one. Just don't make the mistake that a "famous" Brighton fan did in Amsterdam and ask for it well done :lolol:

Not sure if it's still around but I found wolfgangs (I think set up by former Luger chef) to be better than Luger itself. Lugers is so overrated.

Keens and sparks are best in NYC IMHO

I like stk as that has the fun factor as well and always easy to pull one of the bridge and tunnel crew that frequent it (especially the downtown one)

As earlier, if cooked properly T Bone is my favourite been around for a long time so don't see it as an imitation. I also love Rib eye but is this cut resonably new to this country because I don't remember it from when I was younger.
People have favourites of course but I think all steak is great but again as previous post, it is only as good as the quality of the meat and the skill of the chef cooking it.
You are right about the Argies (but also the Yanks) their beef must be specially reared for great steaks (maybe its all those prairies) as I have had by far the best ones cooked in these countries and the portions were huge. I also like the way Americans still eat the retro surf n turf, usually with shrimps, I had a magical one in Vegas.
The Argies must have the knack though as I had a steak in an Argie steak restaurant in Albufeira and it was biblical, but may have been imported Argie beef though.
The sauce and chips is just as important as the steak to make the meal complete.

I used to go to Dylan Prime in Tibeca - a lot, 2001 -2003 - soon after it had opened. looks like they have had a refurb. Always a good experience in there.

I went to an Argentinian Steak restaurant in Rotterdam whilst on a rugby tour, unfortunately I was so inebriated from the gallons of cider we'd been drinking I cant remember if it was nice or not.
I do remember waking up with a stunning blonde Dutch girl with an American accent, that I'd somehow managed to pull in the nightclub.
Fond memories.

Now you are talking,....I ordered a very expensive chateaubriand in my favourite restaurant in the world ( Keens in NYC)........I can honestly say it was a near orgasmic experience.[/

Love Keens. Went there twice on a trip to NYC a few years ago. Just the best steak ever.

Welcome back Cesar. I was wondering where you had been. And yes, you took me to Dylan Prime a couple of times I recall.
