Based on something that came up on another thread about what decent strikers we've had in the last 10 years this is a list I've put together of all Albion strikers over that period (2005-06 until 2015-16). The list is ordered by minutes per goal rather than strike rate as this seems the fairest way to judge a striker (based on statistics). If there are any statisticians out there that can come up with a better way let me know!

Current strike force highlighted in Bold.

What does this table tell us? Not sure, but...

Leroy Lita was the most deadly Albion striker in the last decade!

It appears that Tomer Hemed might be Liam Dickinson in disguise! Nearly identical records up to this point.

Ashley Barnes has played the most minutes of any of our strikers of the past 10 years.

Chris Holroyd was actually worse than Leon Best.

Lloyd Owusu

Chris McPhee was actually more deadly than Chris O'Grady!

Bobby Zamora

Only 8 (18%) of our strikers managed to hit double figures during their Albion careers (Ulloa, Murray, Forster, Barnes, Knight, Mackail-Smith, Revell & Robinson)

A couple of things to note:

I've left off OGH as I can't find reliable stats for him during the 98-04 period

Bobby Zamora's stats are based on this season alone.

Apologies if I've failed to include anyone!

It's that hidden min/goal stat that's the key one, and arguably the most damning to generally all of our strikers, a few exceptions aside.

Good work though - it gives a good picture for what we've been watching.

Where is the data from, particularly on minutes played?

Lloyd Owusu was a class act, a proper goalscorer.

Excellent work. I think OGH needs more explanation though - how come you can get accurate figures for other players but not him?

What it doesn't take into account is that Barnes, Baldock (and OGH) didn't play as strikers for a good part of their Albion career

If Lita is the best, why is his strike rate lower than several other players?

Nice bit of data Half Hawaiian Half Greek
I forgot about Baz Savage, loved that player he really made some grim days at Withdean seem a lot brighter and was gutted when he went off to Millwall.

As per Gwylan above - the data, interesting as it is, makes no allowance for positions played. Just x is a striker, thus all games played are considered as up front.

If the games / minutes considered were ONLY those when played actually as a front man, Ashley Barnes would be very near the top of this list.

Good stats work!

Interesting that Murray and Ulloa hit the classic 'goal every 2 games' (at least in minutes terms) although you seem to have them in the wrong order.

As with averages in Cricket, I think there should be a minimum number of qualifying games (or minutes). It seems silly to attempt a comparison of Lita or Obika with say, Forster and Barnes who were infinitely more effective for the club (Having said that, I think players like Obika got a raw deal from the fans and are actually quite reasonable strikers at a third or fourth tier level.

...I've left off OGH as I can't find reliable stats for him during the 98-04 period

but you're covering the 10 years since, so would want to exclude the previous period anyway?

top stating though.

i do take this point (and often make it myself when people knock forward players played out of position), however if we go down this route, do we have to discount those goals scored when playing as a winger/midfield?

For purposes of this comparison, you'd have to, yes.

Not sure..... I liked Barnes... ( although at the time I thought his leaving was the correct move ) but i actually thought he was more of a goal threat\scored more when playing wide in a front 3 rather than as the focal point...
His real abilty was arriving late i thought into the box and drifting in from wide areas

Glad it wasn't just me that noticed the wrong order.

Was that deliberate as Murray loses a place for Palace?
