I'll start- The Italian entry in the 1974 Eurovision Song contest was not broadcast in Italy as there was and important referendum in the country at the time and the entry was called SI!

By Gigliola Cinquetti. I loved that song. Much preferred it to Abba. Went down to The Dome after the contest and got everyone's autographs. Olivia Newton-John was crying her eyes out.

Following dinner at The Royal Albion hotel, Montgomery said to WSC he needed more transport for his troops. The next day Brighton's buses were requisitioned.

Not the last throes of Joy Division?

Nope, pretty sure it was their first show as New Order - at The Basement Club, Grand Parade.

Love this fact. A member of the 7th Calvary, who fought and survived the Battle of the Little Big Horn, was born and then died in Brighton.

Something to do with salt deposits and rock formation I believe in the area formally known as Bristol Estate inlet or something.

Without the Marina there, the beach was protected from the prevailing south westerly wind. Boats could use the beach to ground themselves and unload their cargoes, mostly coal, which of course covered the beach in coal dust. The nice white chalk was made black, hence Black Rock.

Why is the area where the cliffs start, or Asda land, known as Black Rock.

Folklore states that legendary party quartet 'black lace' first met at a BBQ at this spot, and they rocked. The rest as they say is history.

Alternative theories suggest that ex albion supremo chris catlin secretly developed his famous liquorice sticks of rock in an unknown cave in the cliffs. And the rest, as they say, is history.....

Composer Havergal Brian, composer of the Gothic symphony, the longest by a recognised composer, lived in Moulsecoomb. I still remember the shock of seeing the house with a plaque on it (and amazed that no-one had nicked it).

Dark Side Of The Moon was premiered at the Dome on the 20th January 1972. Except it was called:

Eclipse: A Piece For Assorted Lunatics.

As will be pointed out that the album wasn't released till 1973. Roger Walters says it was a 'live work in progress'
