Starting Up Business

Hello,

Serious thread now....for once.

I wondered if anyone could help me, seriously pondering with a few ideas about going into business with my friend.

However, looking at the banks for business start up loans/ business advice and bits and pieces also looking to write a business plan to present to the bank bigwigs.

Was just on here to see if anyone had started their own business, had written a business plan, how long it should be, what it shoudl include, how i should go about introducing myself to the bankers etc etc

I am quite young, quite in-experienced but I have the willingness and hard working attributes to make this work, If anyone has any useful nuggets of information, I would be very grateful.

Chamged its name again to Start Up Co and based in Burgess Hill but they do have a website. Google it and you will find it

Rodders - where you live? The is a Microbiz event in Worthing on Saturday 21st April at Worthing Pavillion. It is going to focus on new start up and will be full of businesses that help new start ups to succeed. A one stop shop.

Last time I did one was 2 years ago in Shoreham and there were banks/people who knew about grants/inland revenue/advertising companies/accountants and bookeepers/advisers from the start up co. Plus throughout the day, there were seminars you could attend to get additional info. All was free!

Might be a good place to start assimilating information

Obvious things really, make sure there is a gap in the market

Then remortgage your house and take out a 80,000 loan from the bank like some people I know did.

Then get fffiiinngg stressed.

Firstly understand fully the market place you are attempting to sell your product/service. Have a good idea of the demographics, your expected gross profit, brake even figure. Take in account such things as cost for insurance/advertising which often get overlooked.

When producing a business plan for a bank do not sex it up, be honest. They know business far better than you and it will not take them long to know you're bullshitting. Forecast when your business will be in profit.

Finally what ever start up figure you have in mind double it, that will be nearer the mark.

The bank will want to see details of your work experience, how much you personally intend to invest in the venture, prepare some cash flow projections on Excel, main items of expenditure, why you think the business will be a success etc.
