Worthing
Except for in January, when Burn was injured.

It wasnt a great month.

Not sure Burn’s absence was the reason.

The whole Bernardo thing does strike me as strange, particularly given his good start the previous season.

If Bernardo isn’t the answer, we will need to strengthen at LB.

The thread title is made up of words but I'm not sure the random order helps

I'm not sure Clarke would be up to PL standard, he had a decent season overall but it wasn't without hiccups and some deficiencies. Could be a decent player but I wouldn't want to have him in a PL starting XI...

If your player of the season 'could be a decent player'. but not start in the PL, it doesn't say much for the rest of your team!

Putting sources to one side, it seems possible that we could lose Duffy & Dunk in this window. What would our starting CB line up be, particularly if we were going for three at the back?

Webster, White and Veltman? Clarke? Burn? Ostigard and Roberts in the mix too. Pretty inexperienced in the Prem as a group. Would we have to use some of the Dunk money to replace him? If so, what's the point?

And if some "more money than sense club" also punted £55m on White would we even let him go for that much?

EDIT: Maybe all this Dunk chat is bull$1t, in which case, as you were!!

Tony is clever enough not know he could only sell two (preferably one) and keep GP happy with a full sized defensive squad that allows for rotation/injury/development.

Speculating on what we'd do if we sell 3 is pointless because that just won't happen.

Spot on. Most of our promotion squad made the step up. A smaller proportion would be classed as "decent PL players" (as opposed to just "ok") but we have managed to retain them all and add where necessary.

The issue for Leeds, for example, is that they were promoted with pretty much "somebody else's squad" because of the quantity and quality of loanees.

It's the gap between the two divisions that the fella is referring to. He's recognising that they don't have to face Rashford, Kane etc etc week in, week out. Derby have a decent upper mid table team in that league

In terms of the point of this thread. I can only add my predictions. GP will .....

continue to see Burn as a LB rather than a CB and will find a way to get him in the side as he wants to give Maty an outlet if he's fielding a pacey back pass (which happens a lot)
see Veltman as a RB. Agree with whoever was saying that he'll choose between Veltman or Lamptey depending on how attacking he wants to be
ship out Montoya
ship out Duffy
want Dunk and White to stay
loan out Clarke with a view to a sale.
give lots of game time to Webby and not worry too much about his fluctuations in form

Matt Clarke wins ALL Pompey player of the season awards and then wins Derby POTS during an injury-interrupted loan when Wayne Rooney is playing for them too. Twenty-three and left footed. He is absolutely nailed on for a role in a back 3 and so he should be.

There is no point in selling Dunk other than to allow other prospects the opportunity to claim the place. We won't be able to sell Dunk next summer for the same sort of figure so it is probably this summer or never, and as far as clubs go we are superbly positioned to lose our captain and not feel a big impact from it due to those who are waiting in the wings for their chance. Any combination is a risk but with improvements in midfield we may find that the defence isn't exposed in the same way and a regular formation of 5-3-2 allows for limited space and opportunities in goal scoring positions for our opponents.

Ultimately we need to remain competitive with the teams who were around us in the table this season. Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Aston Villa, West Ham, Southampton...These games often have close margins and under Potter we had a decent amount of possession against such teams but often couldn't score when on top, this suggests that a decent attacking arrangement would tip these sorts of fixtures/results in our favour

Without context, it really doesn't does it? So let's put some context around it. In the Championship, Clarke's (like every other player) weaknesses can be less of an exposure but would be a problem in the PL. Two things stand out for me, he makes the occasional rickett and he really doesn't have any pace. In some ways he reminds me of Keogh, a fine player in the championship but never made it to the PL. That's not to say Clarke won't, just telling you how I see things.

The other context is the season that was 2019/20, off the top of my head I can name 5 Derby players of the seasons from various votes - Clarke, Max Bird was players player, Chris Martin, Duane Holmes and even Tom Lawrence were given the title by various fan groups. Clarke did well in the post covid season and that will have been a factor - Rooney, for instance, did not. Again, not to say he didn't have a fine season but it wasn't a stand out season.

dont matter
I’m still of the opinion, one of Dunk, Webster or White will play in a DM role if still at the club by the start of season/end of window.

If we let Dunk and Duffy both go, I wonder if we'd try to bring an experienced Premier League defender in (ideally on a free transfer) for a season or two to bring through the less experienced defenders but not impact their development and also not reduce the transfer budget too much (although wages may be high)

If ... IF....... we let both Dunk and Duffy go, I think it would be because Potter, Ashworth and the coaching and recruitment teams have faith that a CB squad of Webster, BDB, Veltman, White and Clarke will be adequate.

I think in all probability they would be adequate, and provided we don't get mauled in the first few games to dent confidence they would only get better.

I don't know why there's so much chat about defense whilst we're over manned with quality . . . . . its the other half that need the attention to detail
