Or someone ending a sentence with, you see, or, don't you know? patronising, and showing a lack of respect.

"I'm not being funny" - I am, but not in a way that will make you laugh.

This was always something i associated with Australians but since the pandemic i have subconsciously started to do it quite frequently whilst answering someone.

Look, when you use quotes, they enclose the entire phrase you are quoting. Listen I'm not being funny but grammar is grammar, ain't it?

When she interviews politicians, they often reply with look or listen.

My boss often starts conversations with "A quick question". It is usually anything but a quick question.

One of my friends always starts sentences with "I'm not gonna lie". That's a good character trait but I'm not sure you need to keep telling me.


I think most serious Australians start a sentence with "ahhh, look".

Fooled me at first too - I'd never heard anyone start a sentence with 'Look or listen' either, then I realised what the OP meant was look OR listen, not both together. Not so odd ................ might even be an improvement on 'So'!

Aussie default to start a sentence with "look" when being interviewed on telly or answering a question. Never heard it here.

Politicians, in particular Tony Blair, used to start sentences with "look" a lot when trying to get a point across to the thick populace. I found it incredibly annoying and condescending.

I have a problem with people who always start what they are saying with SO even when it makes no sense

My mate says "right" after every sentence when arguing a point. Almost a Monty Python style "am i right?"
