Tom Cruise is a strange one for me. He's not a great actor and seems a slightly unconvincing human being but he's a safe-ish pair of hands and you know what you're going to get. If you want a simple, unchallenging film that's mildly entertaining and will pass a couple of hours, Tom's your man. Born on the fourth of July, Rain Man, The Colour of Money, Mission Impossible, Interview with a Vampire, Minority Report, The Last Samurai, Valkyrie, Tropic Thunder are all watchable films. Plus Top Gun, Cocktail and Days of Thunder...come on they're brilliant in their own special ways!

The Firm - great film

I'm generally more fussed about directors/producers than starring actors and actresses. I'm more likely to be put off by actors/actresses I dislike than watch a film because of ones I rate

I'd go along with one-face Dicaprio, a man who can do nought but FURROWED, and certainly Hanksy, who is a completely bland performer. Cruise is hated the world over and rightly so. He's a fop.
Some people are so bad that they are actually quite funny to watch. I mainly include Keanu Reeves in that list. Anything "serious" that that dumb-faced buffoon is in is immediately made hilarious. I would like to watch him as a doctor giving news to the familes of the recently deceased. That would be quite funny.

He's been in some great films but i find michael caine one of the most wooden actors around.

Well spotted, couldn't agree more. He his a legend in his own mind, would be most impressed if he tried to emulate either Terrance Stamp or Bob Hoskins. Can see Danny Dyer trying to be the next Michael Caine given his faux cockney aspirations. Give me Gary Oldman or the impeccable Ray Winstone any day.

(probably doesn't count as a 'star', but James Cameron usally puts me off)

There are lots of stars I am willing to see if the film looks good enough, but would prefer they weren't involved:

Reece Witherspoon
Leo Dicaprio
Russell Crowe
Nicole Kidman
Chris Rock
Angelina Jolie

And loads more I'm struggling to think of.

Im surprised at all the mentions for Crowe and Cruise to be honest, they may be pricks in real life but they can definately act and have been in some fantastic films.

Having said that Arnie gets my vote, always playing the all american hero and he cant even sound the part, only ever in movies for one reason, muscles! Seeing his name on the credits is enough for me not to even watch it.

Jason Statham is getting worse, I loved Lock Stock and Snatch, Transporter was err ok everything since has been downhill imho.

Lots of people saying Colin Farrell, i watched a film that was on a couple of weeks ago quite late on called Tigerlands, its a nothing film but i thoroughly enjoyed it and though he was very good tbh.
