There are a few familiar surnames in there, aren't the two Mays the sons of Larry May, could the lad called Gatting be the son of Steve and how about the one called Piper, didn't we have a player called Steve Piper many moons ago, might they be related too?

Yes he is read a article a year ago, about what Steve Gattling is up to and that lad is his son.

The Mays, Gatting and Piper are all sons of former Albion players.

Larry May (centre half), Steve Gatting (midfield) and Steve Piper, (defender).

Thanks for that bhaexpress, how about the one called Fillery being the son of the ex-Chelsea player?

Have heard some very good things about Sam Rents ( I think he is on loan at a county league side to get some experience ) and Darren Budd ( not in the team photo ). I am sure DBS can give you more details about Sam and Moggy can about Darren. With a good bunch of youngsters coming through ie Jakey, Virgs, Harding etc the future is looking very good as long as Villa don't come around knicking them all again

Darren Budd isn't a member of the youth team anymore. He was offered, and accepted, a six month contract in the summer and is on loan to Bognor.

He has still got a good chance of being one of our stars of the future though :glare: Which I thought was the whole point of this thread

What a great name, Wes Fogden, he should be a character in "Last of the Summer Wine".

Quite interesting that someone has posted this. I met up with my parents today who had made one of their infrequent expeditions up from Devon. They were telling me over lunch how Mike Fillery formerly of Chelsea had stayed in the holiday house next to where they live and how they had had a few drinks with him during which he told them his son played for our youth team.

And there he is sitting in the front row, I hope he turns out like his father, I seem to remember he was pretty useful.

There's a good question for the stattos - have a father and son ever played for the Albion? I'm willing to bet they haven't but we could have someone very soon.
