Yes that’s right the top seeds from the West, Vegas Golden Knights are playing the number two wild card from the East, Florida Panthers. Vegas beat Dallas 4-2 in the Western final and Florida swept Carolina 4-0 in the East.

I'm not sure who to pull for, tbh. Mark Stone was such a great player for us (Ottawa Senators), not to mention a wonderful, decent, down-to-earth human being; his hockey IQ has always been through the roof, even as a rookie. Meanwhile, it's been inspiring to see Matthew Tkachuk carry the Cats on his back to the finals like we hope younger brother Brady will, one day; I think most of us expected him to flounder in FLA, but he's actually improved his overall game without much affecting his offensive output. Is their run to the finals a true picture of the team's abilities, or are they just on a lucky hot streak, à la 1993 Canadiens de Montréal?

I think I'll side with LV. Stone deserves a Cup more than Tkachuk, who's much younger and not nearly as classy a guy.

Had no idea till I heard it on Talk Sport yesterday, that a Canadian team (A nation which lays claim to the sport) hasn’t won the Stanley Cup for something like 30 years.

Not good for them obviously ( a bit like an English manager winning the title, Howard Wilkinson the last Championship winner in 1992) but great that the sport has expanded right across the US.

People of a certain age in Sussex talk about The Brighton Tigers with great affection, but in the UK it’s one of the those sports, that clearly needed more TV exposure to kick start it.

Tony Millard on our numerous away trips said one of the biggest issues with TV coverage was viewers getting used to the speed on the puck, clearly the TV people across the pond overcame this?

Most current Canadian teams have made the finals in the past 20 years; but no, none has won the Cup since 1993. This is largely due to the fact that there are only 6 CDN vs 26 US teams in the NHL, and that the league has figured out the parity puzzle via an enforceable salary cap and fair draft system. Luckily, Canadian national teams still win the lion's share of Olympic and various senior and junior World Championship gold medals.

Puck visibility: Back in the '90s, when Fox was still a struggling network in the US, they entered into a 5-year deal with the NHL to broadcast games nationally. To gain some interest and traction in the southern states, where the sport was just expanding, Fox created technology that made the puck glow on TV screens so that newbies could follow it more easily. It was laughed out of existence after a year or two by the tens of millions of hockey fans in Canada and the northern states, who refused to tune in to this travesty; Fox's ratings tanked as a result, and the deal was not renewed. I mean, imagine if the PL used a moving, digital offside line throughout its matches for the benefit of American viewers -- that's what it looked and felt like. The newbies who were hooked eventually, and rather quickly, managed to adapt to the speed of the 'naked' puck. (Maybe the larger TV sets had something to do with it, lol?)

BTW, did you know that the UK won the Olympic gold medal in hockey in the '30s? The team's players were all Canadian with dual citizenship!

LAS VEGAS -- The Vegas Golden Knights struck first by following the script that has been so successful for them in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, coming from behind to win with discipline, offense and a dash of the unexpected from Adin Hill.
Zach Whitecloud and Mark Stone scored less than seven minutes apart in the third period, Hill made 33 saves that included a highlight-reel stick save with the game tied early in the second period, and the Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers 5-2 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.

LAS VEGAS -- Jonathan Marchessault is red-hot, and so are the Vegas Golden Knights. If they don't cool off, they could win Stanley Cup as soon as Saturday.
Marchessault had two goals and an assist in extending his point streak to seven games in a 7-2 win against the Florida Panthers in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final at T-Mobile Arena on Monday.

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Carter Verhaeghe had the space and time, so he figured why not shoot the puck and get the Florida Panthers their first win in the Stanley Cup Final?
Verhaeghe scored 4:27 into overtime with a wrist shot from inside the blue line, and the Panthers came back to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in Game 3 at FLA Live Arena on Thursday.
"To win it overtime in front of our fans, it gives us a little bit of momentum," Verhaeghe said.
Matthew Tkachuk had tied it 2-2 for the Panthers at 17:47 of the third period, scoring in front off the rebound of Verhaeghe's one-timer from the right point with Bobrovsky pulled for the extra attacker.

It's the Panthers' first win in a Cup Final. They were 0-6, including getting swept in the 1996 Final by the Colorado Avalanche.

Vegas leads the best-of-7 series, 2-1. Game 4 is here Saturday

SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Vegas Golden Knights can win the Stanley Cup at home on Tuesday.
Chandler Stephenson scored two goals, and the Golden Knights held on to defeat the Florida Panthers 3-2 in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final at FLA Live Arena on Saturday.
"It's one win away from a lot of dreams for a lot of guys," Stephenson said.
William Karlsson scored the game-winning goal, Mark Stone and Nicolas Hague each had two assists, and Adin Hill made 29 saves for Vegas, which leads the best-of-7 series, 3-1.
The Stanley Cup will be in the building Tuesday for Game 5 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS -- Vegas, baby, Vegas.

The Vegas Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup for the first time, defeating the Florida Panthers 9-3 in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday.
Vegas won the Cup in its sixth season, becoming the second-fastest team to a championship in the expansion era (since 1967-68) behind the Edmonton Oilers (five, 1983-84).

"All of us, the Golden Knights, we're all winners," said forward Jonathan Marchessault, who was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. "It's definitely the best feeling in the world."

Mark Stone scored a hat trick, Jack Eichel and Shea Theodore each had three assists, and Reilly Smith had a goal and an assist for Vegas. Adin Hill made 32 saves.

The Golden Knights had seven goal-scorers and 15 players with at least one point.

"Depth all year," Vegas defenseman Alex Pietrangelo said. "We just used our depth to overwhelm people."

A comprehensive victory saw the Knights win all three periods 0-2, 1-4 and 2-3
