Standing section - opinions

Am writing a wee article on the rising resentment among fans regarding standing during matches. I understand they're trying to clamp down on it at Withdean and now it's Derby's turn - two fans were chucked out for standing and have been threatened a season-long ban from matches.

Just wanted to gauge opinions on this:
1) are clubs right to clamp down on standing during games
- after all it spoils other people's view of the game
- then again, it's also spoiling the atmosphere of the game
2) should areas of terracing be reintroduced?
3) is terracing really that dangerous?
4) have all-seater stadiums encouraged a wider section of society to attend games?

Any any other opinions...

Terracing should definitely be reintroduced at all grounds.

I think there should be certain areas where standing is allowed. I am not sure if the way to go is seated areas where you are allowed or back to terraces.

If you go back to terraces then i think it would need to be well stewarded to ensure numbers were kept to a maxium safety level.

Why does this keep coming back. We are not going to get terracing back and I doubt that the clubs want it. You can charge a lot more for seats than you can for terracing, so even though terracing means a large capacity it also means less revenue.

i think terracing being re-introduced to the higher leagues would be fantastic - it is possible, it is safe and there is a MASSIVE demand for it.

I'm all for terraces too - never thought they were dangerous, hillsborough was tragic, but a frak occurrence...

i think terracing being re-introduced to the higher leagues would be fantastic - it is possible, it is safe and there is a MASSIVE demand for it.

I doubt that - it's not just ticket sales, remember. Higher attendances mean more dodgy pie sales, more programme sales, more drinks sales, more shirts sales etc etc

I wish! Just the match day programme for Clyde FC - I do a column on the football below the Premiership in england - i try to be as neutral possible but brighton tend to crop up quite often....

Think about it though £30 - £50 for a seat in the Premiershite and the most for a terrace is probably £18. You will still make more out of seats.

In any case top clubs will not want the hassle of putting the seats back in for European games and too much terracing will mean a loss of corporate facilities.

Do not get me wrong I prefer to stand, am just bored of it being done to death on here, when it is not going to happen, the FA will not allow it, nor will the Government and people seem to have little understanding of why it will not be brought back.

I think we could learn alot from the germans who are now building stadia with standing facilities for their fans or as in some cases the ability to convert from seats to standing ..Schalke is a perfect example .

Don't Bayern Munich operate a system where they put the seats back in for European games?

When I went to Veron is was 'all seated' but the seats were just bits of plastic bolted onto the structure so it was just like a mulit coloured terrace. I found it to be quite good and couldn't that be a way round it. The seats are there yet it is easy to stand, something which can't be said for some grounds in this country.

Clyde's programme is the best in the country! And I mean the UK, by that, not just Scotland.

Fine, if that's what they want - what we need is for the clubs to be given back the right to have terracing if they want it. Then each club can make the decision, based on their own business needs and the views (if we're lucky!) of the fans taken into consideration.

All the more reason to keep on pushing for it, repeating our arguments and restating our desire.

is there no way maybe or co-ordinating a massive nationwide push on this?

i no for a fact that nearly every other club(from reading other forums) fans would welcome back a portion of terracing - f*** it - i dont even mind paying close to what i pay now for seating (if not the same) for the pleasure of being able to stand!
