I'll hold my hands up, during my boy racer days in my early twenties i was guilty of most of the above -

Tailgating
only letting the indicators flash once when turning or moving lanes.
driving with fog lights on - when there was no fog.
Gesturing/ abusing other drivers.
driving well over the speed limit on any road in general although this did eventually result in a court appearance and 6 points on the licence - seemd to bring me into line after that plus the sale of the offending car/s i used to knock about in.

I'd say now i'm pretty good though even resist the temptation to loose it when someone cuts me up etc. May well have something to do with being a bit older and wiser and having my own family/ less of a death wish.

.. and another example this morning. Three lanes going onto the roundabout, goon in the far left lane decides he's going right so hoots me for being in his way.

The old joke used to be the further south you went in Europe, the worse the driving got.

Certainly gets worse the further South in England you go, in terms of driver behaviour, horn use, abusive hand signals etc.

I am not a particularily good driver as i drive too fast and sometimes I am accused by my wife as " trying to teach other people to drive" You know the scenario....there is someone poddling along in the outside land, you are behind them....you pull over to the inside land ( or just a bit of the lane) to show them you are looking to get past....We all do it. Oh and also when you have overtaken people who are poddling in the middle lane of a motorway, you cut in front of them and swerve into the inside land, therefore showing them they should be driving there......

What really pisses me off, and I am sorry but it is a woman thing....people who touch he brakes when they see a car coming the other direction on the road....Up valley Road in Portslade, its a fecking epedemic.

and relax

you lot want to try and drive in Dubai

is carnage on the main roads

day in, day out

is no such thing as a Highway Code and have so many different cultures on same roads - all following different rules

think we officially have most dangerous roads in world?

Never been to Dubai, but if you are telling me that the driving is worse than Cairo, you have my sympathy:ohmy:

I've driven in quite a few places, USA, India, Romania and all accross Western Europe, I don't think speed has a huge amount to do with it, if everyones on the same wave length, its speed differentials and erratic behaviour that cause problems, coupled with driver distractions . . .phones, stereos, mums with children, make up, daft bints/mates in the back etc. loose concentration for 10 seconds and they could easily be your last

I could drive quite safely from Crawly to Shoreham in 20 minutes if it wasn't for other road users, but when theyre out there its genuinely a 35-45 minute journey, most drivers do unpredictable things, and you can't take the chance.

modern cars are marketed to make you feel safe, and what with all the additional creature comforts, this lulls most people into a false sense of security as well.

I'm probably guilty of quite a few minor sins on the road, but I know I'm safe in what I do, its just everyone else !!!

yes Abu Dhabi is the same but as it is an island it is set out in a grid much like manhattan. There's pretty high fines for jumping lights and now cameras are installed at every junction the low paid asian ex-pats (taxi drivers etc who risk deportation for minor offences) do emergency stops on amber and usually get locals in their turbocharged SUV's who can only just make out the car in front out of their 99% tinted windscreens going up the taxi drivers' arses. The locals never get hurt though as they use their kids as airbags.

It really opened my eyes when i arrived and it makes the odd indiscretion on the A27 pale into insignificance. It's a jungle out there. You gotta keep your wits about you. When in Rome...etc etc. Oh and don't talk to me about lane discipline..
