I'm still of the opinion this World Cup is never gonna happen.

Within the next 2-3years I'm sure we'll see it scrapped and awarded to someone like Japan or Korea.

Wonderful Architecture - But isn't the World cup supposed to be about the quality of the football rather than how much money they can waste on new buildings - rather like the Olympics over here, it seems posturing and handing out huge contracts will rule, instead of whether the country really deserves a World Cup.

No don't be silly - the World Cup is about corrupt business people lining each other's pockets and giving nothing to the ordinary fan!

Bollocks to it.

It's about as far removed from the ethos of the game as it's possible to be.

Wanky rich man oil stadia built by cheap Indian labour in an absolute and authoritarian monarchy state with no democratic elections.

Normally i'm really up for new stadia etc but have to agree with this comment.

Having the world cup in Qatar completely sums up the role FIFA play in running world football. It's nothing more than a mask to disguise the utter greed that encapsulates the world cup in recent years. The innocence of this competition has been completely lost behind the billions of pounds spent on shiny new stadia which quite frankly only an oil rich country like Qatar and Russia could afford. There will be no football fans at this tornament and i can only imagine what the atmosphere at these grounds will be like!

This is not football.

My thoughts on this farce (which I still don't think will happen):

- It's in Qatar.... QATAR. Remember how shit they were on Fifa International Soccer?

- Whether or not they actually end up inventing those air conditioning blimp space ship things, they'll still have to contend with the best part of a million people travelling around in 40 degree heat. There WILL be heath issues.

- Currently, you can only drink in certain places (some hotels/restaurants). The solution to this is to provide designated "fan areas" where people are allowed to drink. That won't work.

- It's illegal to be gay... So err, don't be gay and you'll be just fine.

- It's a soulless, hollow rich man's playground. There won't be pubs everywhere to watch the game, there won't be the same carnival atmosphere we've seen everywhere else. It would be like having a world cup in a big Milton Keynes (except without a Weatherspoons).

- There are only 1.6 million people who live there. Their league gets an average gate of 4000. No one cares about football!

They've bribed their way to this. So yes the stadiums look great and yes people will go, but there will be no soul to this tournament if it goes ahead. It will just be an exhibition of wealth in a country which just wants the tournament so it can show off. In my opinion... no not even in my opinion, It's a FACT that this was the worst bid. Australia's was infinitely better, but because they haven't got enough cash to bribe Fifa with, they lost out.

It's a complete and utter joke and I hope it gets canned.

Japan/korea had it 9 years ago. Think Australia would be more likely

Look amazing but the amount of money going into it is unsettling. And also, do less-developed countries really need football stadiums? Possibly more important things on the agenda I would think... Since when did football care about LEDC's anyway? For the 2010 WC wasn't it a few weeks of crap football and the patronising of an entire nation (you know, the one 'with a smile on its face') with no real positive lasting effects?
