As 1X user from Mile Oak Road firstly, I can not, for the life of me see a way I could make that journey into 4 hours. Secondly, you can’t even use the free travel until 3 hours before kick off. So, to get this factually correct, you’re paying extra to string an hour and half journey tops, into a four hour expedition?

The return journey is always longer, although Belgian Fries from just by that station on the way down certainly helps.

Anybody bemoaning the travel time from Mile Oak / Portslade clearly hasn't researched the 49 bus which will deliver you - pretty much with a guaranteed seat - to just short of the Bridge Car Park. Load the B&H bus app, get on top of your timings, and the 49 will drop you off and pick you up from The Bevy. Job done!

Few season ago we were getting less than 30,000 attendances. Now we have more people. During covid the train services got scaled back and have never been brought back up to the same level of service (this is trains in general, not just football trains on Falmer line). So we've got more people attending matches and less trains running. Figures more people are going to be driving or getting picked up and dropped off locally which adds to the traffic.

Yay I've only been to a couple of home games in the last 2 seasons as living abroad but yeah, most likely people giving up on trains.

So according to the B&H Buses route planner, Mile Oak to Falmer on a Saturday pre-match takes 1hr 20mins and is completely free using your match ticket

Sadly getting to and from the Amex is for most people the biggest Elephant in the room. I no longer have a ST due to the increased costs but even for the few games I go to on an ad-hoc basis, the trains are a real nightmare.

The plans for a mono"rail" have been adapted slightly. Construction of the northern leg is proving... ...tricky.

Granted not everyone will have the mobility or opportunity but I walk in and back from Lewes and think if you have the time and fitness it's so worth it to avoid the transport issues. Along the dual carriageway it takes 1h30 max, over the hills (much more pleasant) adds an hour. I've wondered in the past about seeing if anyone wants to do it as a group occasionally when the weather picks up. Might make travelling to the ground a more enjoyable experience for some perhaps. The location of the stadium feels like a privilege to experience when you leave a game with a thumping atmosphere (Man City at home for example) and within 20 minutes you're on your own in a silent valley surrounded by hills.

Done this, have also jogged from home over the downs (Burgess Hill - 100 mins or so) and walked from Ditchling Beacon (about an hour) and Jack and Jill Windmills (around 90 mins). Definitely an early/late season option in particular. Most of the time tend to park about 30-35 mins walk away - means the transport delay jeopardy is not generally an issue.

As a regular driver of the 1/1X I can only read this as “it’s taken me 3 and a quarter hours in the past from Churchill Square”

I stayed till the end and luckily I managed to cadge a lift back on Sunday, I was in my local at about 4.50 watching that Manchester thing. It would've been sooner but it was a complete BUNFIGHT along the seafront road westbound going past the Grand, as that brilliant additional cycle lane cuts in and forces 2 lanes of traffic into 1.

A mate of mine did the Mill Road P&R. He messaged at 16.54 to say that he'd just that minute boarded the bus at the Amex. Yup. a full HOUR after the final whistle and he'd gotten nowhere.

Its getting to a point whereby if there's no EDF or I don't have a lift, then Sundays / evenings are just going to be a write-off for me, I can't really be arsed with it.

Although it adds £10 to cost, for those who can afford it, I recommend seagull travel. 30/40 mins from Portslade/southwick and reasonable get away from amex post match.

Edf is the game changer for me also makes such a massive difference for us

Good grief. I get worn out driving over the Beacon post match, never mind walking it or jogging. I am impressed.
