Aren’t most people on DD ? It just auto renews and it’s too early to tell if people have cancelled

Whilst I'm on DD myself all my friends with season tickets are lump sum payers. Obviously a bit more flush than me!

Presumably that is just 1901 or are they calling all STH that haven't renewed yet?

A lot of people have got used to not going now, well over a year, fallen out of love with the premier league, will be waiting to see what hoops you will have to jump through to get in, vaccine passports, negative covid test that day, social distancing, masks, delays getting in and some will still be scared to go to an event with large crowds and the match day experience will for sure never be the same again as it was before 2020. They will find it very hard to get 30000 crowds again imo

Will they bollocks. Every fan I know can’t wait to get back to live football. The place will be rocking once restrictions are gone and we’re back to normal lives.

I can understand why you say that, but disagree about not getting to 30k crowds again....there is without doubt an element of the population who will struggle to change their behaviour and trust in the hoped for better situation...despite what we are already seeing ...then add in those who have got used to sitting front of their TVs (the every match being screened will surely stop)...then of course those who have been hit financially.....but never get to 30k or large crowds...nah

For 1901, the website has this to say to potential new members:

"The 1901 Club is currently sold out however, if you join the waiting list now you could be given the opportunity to purchase 1901 Club seats for the 2021/22 season onwards..."

It made me wonder how renewals are going generally...

I received an email today telling me I'd reached the top of the 1901 waiting list and I could now select my seat(s).

I'm not sure I recall putting myself on the waiting list, although I don't doubt it's correct.

There is only the faintest of circumstantial evidence, but I do think renewals generally will be materially lower than prior seasons.

I’m guessing that there will be around 500 new 1901 seats in the new North Stand shelf and perhaps in the the North East box. The club clearly want a commitment from a number of fans that if they are to build the shelf in the summer, they need to know that they’d sell the additional tickets.

I think they’ll leave the shelf and corner for a season or two if there is not enough interest.

I imagine all the while there is uncertainty around what next season looks like, numbers will be down a bit - but that's to be expected rather than worried about.

Like most things, it will recover in time assuming the vaccines do largely fight off the virus.

I registered my interest to "purchase 1901 Club seats for the 2021/22 season onward" on the 1901 part of the club website with full contact details. It said someone would be in touch to discuss my requirements shortly.

...that was maybe 6 weeks ago. So far, nothing.

Based on that I can only guess they are going very well. Or they can't be arsed?

Time limit on 1901 renewals is the end of the month, I will be shocked if you don’t get a call after the deadline passes. Just a gut feeling but I think season ticket renewals across the board will plummet.

That’s my sense.......look at the pub gardens in the last few days, even when freezing cold. Mobbed. People are desperate to get out and do normal things - demand for anything happening will be huge, particularly with foreign travel more or less off the agenda for now.

I hate the thought of this, it depresses me greatly and I hope I'm very wrong. But the evidence is out there from what is happening in other countries.
To prevent new variants spreading whilst at the same time returning to 'normal' is impossible.

I wouldn't under estimate the effect the economy will have on renewals. With furlough finishing soon and lots of jobs at risk, I would think there will be people who may not want to commit to a season ticket until things are more stable.

I can see us taking a hit with regular crowds dipping below the almost constant fullish houses we've been having, but still selling out the important games. Hopefully only temporarily.

What other countries? The only country that is significantly ahead of the U.K. in terms of vaccinations is Israel, and they are about 10-12 weeks ahead of us in terms of percentages of population jabbed and are on the verge of opening up fully.
