St Pauli - The 'Jolly Rouge' -a clubs values

I have been away all week so this may already have been discussed, could not find a link.

I saw this video clip on the Guardians web site (I assume Marcel has a famous brother). I remember reading in the papers about a corporate box at St Pauli having strippers and thought it was just about the location and alternative side of the club. However I remember thinking I wonder if this sits easy with a bulk of their fan base.

Video implies it lead to a 'Jolly Rouge' campaign to stop the club losing its 80's roots based in anti racism and socalist values, based around what was happening in the corporate areas. Is this right I would love to be directed to some more detail about this campaign if anyone knows more.

Always makes me happy Gold and Sullivan never got near our club.

no one has really mentioned St Pauli on here before whats the score with them some sort of alternative football club or something that appeals to middle aged punks? Sounds interesting I need to find out more.

I wonder what with all we went though losing the Goldstone etc we should have an air of uniqueness about us. Maybe we should play in pink it might go against the grain and blandness of many other clubs and give us a unique feel to our club attracting a more diverse type of fan.

how unique do you think they are?

st pauli are an interesting club but some of the love ins with them from overseas are far from that though. its like a lefty version of clueless norwegian day trippers at the premier league.

St. Pauli are completely unique, but do seem to have been losing their values recently. They nearly went out of business 4 - 5 years ago, but that seems to have been used as an excuse by those in charge to exploit the "rebellious" fanbase, becoming more cartoon punks rather than anything with a serious point - strippers hadly fits with the original anti-sexism, anti-racism ideals, and St. Pauli reputedly has more female fans (especially of the young studenty type) than any other German club. Some of the original St. Pauli fans are starting to support the local non-league club, Altona 93.

Of course on a forum like NSC, where there's a full range of political opinions, they're going to appeal to some on here but also be hated by others as a bunch of lefties.
