i know there's a few fans on here...

i'm in hamburg tonight playing a show at a venue about 3 streets from the ground. st pauli are at home (very scary looking skins EVERYWHERE) and i quite fancied catching a half before the show. looks like it kicks off at 6pm german time.

dont speak any german though so google, etc is not doing me any help. anyone know if you can buy tix on the door? friendly place? ive heard it is but everyone ive seen looks like they want to kick the shit out of me. not sure if thats cause i'm standing outside the katy perry venue or just i look like i need a good beating.

thanks y'all!!

I've not been to a St Pauli game (booked a trip to see them but they moved the match) but i've been in bars crowded with their post-match fans and they were fine and friendly.

Most football matches in Germany resemble a rock festival. St Pauli resembles a punk gig. No big deal either way. Go, you wont regret it.

They're not bad, weren't they relegated from the Bundesliga last year?

Talking of the German 2nd division, my team the mighty Zebras of MSV Duisburg have had a superb run since changing manager and are now up to fourth. The elevator ride continues.

The fish-heads. The Hertha Berlin/Rostock game last year was billed as a derby...I never did find out why.

St Pauli are a bit antifa. So would imagine Hansa Rostock have got some boys along. So be carefull

Try and stand on the Black block:

These formed the so called black block, whose sign the death's-head's flag was (now an official symbol of the club). Under the death's-head stands alternative, anti-fascistic and anti-racistic. Though one might think that this block is violent, they are indeed nonviolent. The FC St. Pauli has some of the most modern stadium rules for their Millerntor-Stadion, which forbid for example yelling racistic or sexistic paroles.

figured out how to get on wiki in english here...

"A rivalry developed between St. Pauli and Hansa Rostock in the early 90's because of the number of neo-Nazis among Hansa supporters at that time. As Hansa brought these groups under control and eventually banned them, the rivalry faded. However, after Rostock fans unprovoked attacked St. Pauli supporters at the away match in Rostock 26.09.2008 (Hansa Rostock : St. Pauli 3:0) it became obvious that still some of the neo-Nazi Groups are active and not under control. [4]"

sounds amazing! cant wait :)

you might be able to get tickets from the ground (new stand next to the shop) - they all speak english. but it's a big game and it's tough enough getting tickets for FCSP but rostock is only 1 hour away ...

in terms of political football this is the big one in northern europe, hansa are the millwall of germany, proper hard right, then st. pauli are the hard-left, should be an amzing game with some good singing which you won't be able to understand. herr T. will agree they are rough, i have been on the u-bahn going to see hertha and they ain't a pretty bunch from the baltic.

pop in on the jolly roger bar after (opposite the new stand on buderpestr.) and say hello to everyone - they are albion friendly.

which bar you playing at? go get a ladyboy on hamburger berg, they gobble you off for a jaegermeister.

greetings from norway, had a look for thoughts on the new appointment (get down and get with it Russell...) and saw this... Raphael, huge local derby, Rostock is a nightmare and the fash will definitely be there, action stations all round and it´ll be sold out,if you want a long shot go to the Fanladen in Brigittenstrasse (very near the ground)ask for Sven Brux or Heiko Schliesemann, say you.re a Seagulls fan and hi from me and you might end up with a ticket...
in any case go to the Jolly Roger, St Pauli home pub, you´llbe made very welcome and youll like the music!"
guess you´re playing Knust or Hafenklang?
strange norwegian keyboard..
all the best.

hey thanks for all the help guys (and the ticket help atilla, ta! very kind of you!)

didn't get time to catch any game in the end but walked up to the stadium just now and had a very friendly chat with a few fans watching on screens round the bars outside. looked very sold out from what i could see and lots of people on van roofs in the car park, etc.

had no idea where the ground was, by the way, and just followed the singing. bloody impressive as it turns out i was a good 10 minute walk away!

i'm at grosse frieheit 36 tonight (think that's how you spell it). pretty nice 2,000 cap dive type venue with an industrial goth club night after (the katy perry show! hahah. should be interesting to see how many kids stick around haha)

meant to take a few photos but cleverly left my camera in the dressing room here. hey ho!

cheers again for all the help chaps :) plenty of riot police (and what look like army too, though might just be police in green with guns) about and i'm told by the local crew here that things might get very tasty indeed after the game so might keep my head inside here haha x

Sounds as if things did get very tasty - 5 policemen finished up in hospital.
