April 23rd - where is our National Holiday?

It really should be. April 21st, Queens Birthday, April 23rd, St Georges Day.

I was talking to an Australian colleague the other day, and they get the Queens birthday off in Australia - And they want to become a republic !

And of course, Saint Patrick was almost certainly Welsh and so deserves to be worshipped for that fact alone.

Happy Welshman day, everyone!

Calm down you lot. St Patrick's Day is one big party that everyone is invited to. No need to take it any other way if you're not Irish. If you want to have some fun, come join us. If you dont and you'd rather stay in, fair enough, you do that.

I agree that you should have more laid on for you on St George's Day, although i'm not sure if it really would come to much (i'm not being sarcy here, i'm honestly not sure). Unfortunately for many races of people, the English and 'Englishness' has unfortunate connotations, therefore the chances of anyone else joining in a reduced.

Anyways, have a good day everyone, whatever you're doing (even if its nowt)

Too right, the 21st is my Birthday too. It should be 'Chappers' Day'.

As regards to St. Patricks Day, why can't we celebrate? It's just a big party, nobody is saying they are Irish by celebrating it. You know us English, any excuse for a drink or two. Innit.

I'm quarter Irish by the way. Won't be celebrating mind, it's my bad quarter. Innit.

Well its about time the English took St Georges day and the St Georges cross back from the 'English' elements you refer to. What would be a good start is for people like Ken Livingston to stop spending PUBLIC money on St Paddy's day and actually redirect it to St Georges day celebrations.

I guess the idea behind the organisation of a St Patricks Day parade is as a demonstration of how multi-cultural England/London- "look at us, we accept and celebrate everbody".

You're right that theres no reason why PUBLIC money cant be spent on a St George's Day celebration. The St George's cross should be reclaimed as a representation of what is good about England. Its quite an ask though, it could take some time..???

Off to the Galtee Moor in Cricklewood tonight - other wise known as Ashtons - HUGE Irish social / night club. Looking forward to it (and I'd like to thank my mum for giving me some legitimacy on this day).

Tomorrow should be a struggle!

Unfortunately, i live in a house with people who come back wearing giant Guinness hats. They also buy jester hats at festivals and consider themselves wacky.

Yes, i'm curmudgeonly, but i'll avoid the "celebrations" if you don't mind.
