SSN Special Report on Racism

SSN went to all the grounds around the country where players have recently claimed they were racially abused. This was not anything based on a historical witch hunt at all. Only that of the clubs they visited, Millwall came out worse.

You can claim you smell a rat all you like but my first hand experience backs up SSN

I think you've misunderstood what I've just written TBH. The historical aspect links in to what I'm saying and by ignoring it you are ignoring a root cause of why there is racism at some clubs more than others - the answer isn't that far away from why there is more hooliganism at some clubs more than others. Make this programme at any point in the last 50 years and it would've been the same outcome (in fact they have done numerous times) It isn't the people who run Millwall FC's fault and they have done alot in the last 10 years to try stamp some of this out but I'm guessing they didn't show any of that. At the end of the day the club haven't exactly got millions to throw at it and you can't polish a turd.

well perhaps you should hear it for yourself. i was at Tiny's funeral recently (admittedly as an onlooker), perhaps if you had been there you would have a different view.

You have lost me now regarding any relevance.

Millwall like I said above probably have to work really hard and have probably done so in recent years. However there is still a group of fans that let Millwall down that have not been dealt with and that problem is magnified because of said history. SSN however were IMO
not picking on Millwall just what they heard and filmed first hand and all that unedited footage would still be there if needed

so you are saying i am right

why would people who have only been here 40 years support a club been going 125 years and was always a bit of a closed shop like the dock work that formed the core of the support?

The Sky camera team are going to get murdered next time they cover a match at The Den. Their fans adopt a siege mentality when it comes to things like this and won't forget the bad publicity again.

Best of luck, Sky. You're going to f***ing need it.

Not saying you are right. I am miffed that you instantly jumped on the "I hate Sky" bandwagon" claiming edited videos but all you have is hear say from yourself.

Millwall no doubt do a fair but to improve its image and on the community side but not all the bad press comes from one source does it.

The Millwall v Albion game for example I saw plenty of examples of small groups of lads behaving and having a blind eye being leant to them whereas other clubs may well of turfed them out in most cases

i know andy ambler, not well admittedly but have met him a number of times and i know how hamstrung he is on this media assault backed up by divvy responses like this. also my sister in law has been involved in community projects at millwall including anti homophobia initiatives at millwall. really, leave it mate, this is the TV equivilent of the Sun, you want to believe it knock yourself out. When you ook around the Amex next week and see a sea of white faces think of Millwall which is far more diverse and accommodating. i really promise you that.

I haven't been to Millwall but I've watched many a home game and they have never looked a diverse group to me in fact they all seem to dress and look the same

Millwall fans are allowed to get away with it week in and week out. Jesus, now we have their apologists on here. This season when we played there even their fans who ran down the terrace and threw things at Ankergren were allowed to get away with it. They throw the odd 12 year old out every month or so to make out they are dealing with the problems.

Watch the YouTube clip called something like, 'Zokora kicks racism out of football'. Interesting video and you will smile at the end.

Emre was playing for fenerbache I believe, allegedly used racist profanities towards Didier Zokora . Only given a 3 game ban. In the return game, some retribution was sought.

Your telling me its bollocks, I was born in Lewisham and have lived in that borough virtually all my life and only a few years ago moved three miles down the road to Bromley. I also have a flat in Bermondsey.
Millwall are excellent in the work they do for schools, my son was trained by Millwall coaches and now my youngest is also trained by them and yes they are marvellous with the kids and the man who ran them was my next door neighbour! really he was. Coincidentally I only ever saw one black coach from Millwall and I have probably met twenty.
I am simply saying that I have never ever met a black/mixed race Millwall fan. Its not because they are scared to go Millwall but because that is not how the footballing allegiance worked for immigrants and that has been passed onto their offspring(my friends).
Out of interest, why are you not a Millwall fan having been born/bred locally?

Absolutely this. I saw the report on SSN last night and quell surprise it was the block on the right hand side with 40-50 year morons that came under scrutiny. Every time we go there you see behaviour which WOULD NOT be tolerated at any other stadium go unpunished. Sadly the people who run Millwall have a thankless task trying to rid themselves of this element of their support. I agree with those who say that Millwall have done a terrific job thus far in trying to cure themselves, but sadly even more stringent measures are needed if they are to rid themselves of this unsavoury element. What was on our screens last night was disgusting and indefensible.

I'm sad to say that whenever i have encountered large groups of Millwall fans either at the Den (old and new) or when they have been the visitors they have done nothing to rid themselves of their violent, racist and homophobic stereotype. A large element of the support behave like knuckle dragging scum, and if they don't like being called out on it then, then they should man up and start cleaning themselves up. The sad thing, the "reputation" is all they have at that club, maintaining that seems to be as important for some Millwall fans as the football.

Of course not all Millwall fans are like this, in fact many are indeed decent footy fans who display the cheerfully weary cycniscism of following a small/medium sized club and I truly feel for them having their name dragged through the mud by those who fail to get to grips with the 21st Century. On the field I think Kenny jacket has done a great job with limited resources MFC are always decent to watch and our games against them are always entertaining. It's just a shame that they are continually let down by a minority (albeit a significant one) of their support.
