Mental, so in a certain branch the 3 full time staff will get 3-10 times what the 20 part time staff earn in a year on top? That's going to causes so much resentment and conflict in most workplaces I bet. And most of them do indeed hide from customers and chat to their m8s all day it seems

But is this something they can cash in now, or are they issued with share options with exercise dates attached to them at some point in the future, and the £43k is based on where someone is expecting the shares to be when the exercise date comes round?

If not, and they get shares TODAY that they can sell immediately, then that's madness on teh part of SD, as that mass sell off of shares that the employees will inevitably undertake, will flood the market with shares and that will drag down the price.

Have I missed something?

No, I don't think you have and I'm sure your first sentence is correct. Companies issue shares to staff to incentivise and encourage them to contribute to the company success long term, not as a get rich quick scheme designed to crash their share price. Shares are often not available for a year after issue and then in tranches over a period of 3 or 4 years.

As usual, our wonderful press go for the attention grabbing headline that doesn't tell one tenth of the story.

Nice to see a company sharing the bonuses between all the staff, rather than a few directors and chief execs awarding themselves huge bonuses while telling the other 99% of staff to be grateful they've got jobs!

the right attitude.

the wrong attitude. ffs some people are such miserabl bastards, people rile against "fat cat" executives and call for the profits of companies to be shared, when one does you say its going to be a disaster. :shootself

El Pres has covered it already, £1.4b and share price up 150% on the year. and it appears from reading a grownup paper's report that some of the 43k is from last years bonus, no doubt some of this years will be defered forward (with journos adding this to next years payout...)
