As long as he doesn't make some three hour, worthy, epic film about it I think it is a good move.

It sounds like he might have done something decent for once.
I would think the added weight to the save-Darfur campaign with Clooney and other celebs involved means there's a Hollywood movement in some way. I would have hoped China's refusal to act against the torturous ordeals inflicted by the Burmese rulers on it's obsessively watched and fragile people would be enough for him not step down.

Good for him, but are they really going to care?

I was reading in the paper yesterday that the British Olympic Committee or whatever they are called - the people in charge of the British Olympic Team; had some contract written up that would stop British athletes criticising China/human rights while the Olympics are on. but have since withdrawn it or something.

According to the BBC article, yes they are.

Nice one Spielberg.

It's a good sentiment but why agree in the first place, and surely China is dodgy enough Human Rights wise to shun from the start

Personally I think it's a disgrace they got the games and we shouldn't send a team over there.

Agreed. It seems that various attreibutes are ingored and the 'official test' is similar to that applied to Premiership Chairmen. All sorts of standards need to be met, but human rights abuse does not seem to figure very highly on the agenda

I think it will be a farce anyway. Fancy going for a 50km walk or 26 mile run in the dense smog? Not to mention, most events being run at odd times to suit the American audiences... :nono:

As with the opening ceremony providing an insight into make-up of the country, can we expect all sorts of human trafficking, executions, human rights abuse and a re-enactment of the Tianemmen Square bloodbath?
