Anyone know what the requirements are for a speeding ticket.

Do I need to declare it to my insurers if I take the days speed awareness course instead of the 3 points

No, because the charge is dropped if you do the course

The most curious thing..
Don't think the charge is dropped, just the punishment. You might regret it if the insurers have a problem with what you haven't told them. Although even if you ask them they will probably increase the premium regardless.

If it doesn't say SP30 on your endorsement you don't have to declare it. If asked about convictions or fixed penalty notices lodged with the DVLA or MID you'd be wise to tell your insurer.

Why not just inform your insurance company and let then decide whether or not they need to know???

I went on the spreed awareness course a week ago last Thursday. We were told that as we had been given this option and had taken up the offer, there was no requirement to inform our insurnace companies. If you are given the option to go on the course and attend there will be no points added to your licence. It cost £95 mind you, instead of the three points and £60 fine. Much cheaper in the long run though as your premiums will not be affected.
Can I just add that I was dreading the course (4 hours) but it was run by AA Drive Tech and was really quite interesting. You get the electronic multiple choice gadgets like they have on millionaire to guess the answers to questions. Having had no driver education since I passed my test 30 years ago, I feel I have learnt a lot. If you are given the chance, go for it!

This! I did mine at Withdean in the old Albion cabins a few weeks ago it was £80 but no gadgets but they said then it was going up soon. It makes you think about your speed and other stuff.

I have been driving for nearly 30 years and never had a driving offence, until recently, 36 in a 30 allegedly, took the Speed awareness course which only confirmed to me what a bunch of over powered jobworths they really are, up there with Refs and community wardens.
Then just a couple of months later a mobile camera snaps me a 36 in a 30 again allegedly, bloody sure those guns are not calibrated properly and they are on a money raising mission. However after long thought (1 second) i have decided to appeal against the offence.

My advice would be to all drivers in Sussex to drive at 20 everywhere you may just get away without a ticket.

I would like to say it is victimisation!

My record was cleaner than a vicars bed sheets.

I can only imagine this offence took place in some sleepy rural village road by a team of villagers that only get together once a year to done bright yellow jackets and stand by one of the safest roads in their area to complain about vehicles doing 3mph over the limit because cars doing this speed might cause enough wind to blow the roses of their rose bushes (and breath Gold, breath) ?
