When I had 3 points I found it was usually about £40-50 more than it would've been otherwise (for fully comp).

My insurance doesn't increase until/if I go over 6 points. Mind you, I can't get away with not telling them if I get any points added 'cos I have public hire. They take a photocopy at each and every renewal.

The effect on your premium will be minimum for the first 3 points, might be as low as £10.00, or as high as £40.00. However you should declare the points at your renewal, as if you have a claim, it could cause problems, as more and more insurers ask to see your licence before dealing with a claim (I know we do!) but for a policy to be voided, the additional premium required for undisclosed points/convictions must be twice the amount of the original cost of the policy.

This can all be avoided by keeping a photocopy or two of your licence, and if requested by your insurer, you can send this, and they will be none the wiser!

...which might render yourself liable to being done for fraud if it comes to light that you have deliberately misled the insurance company.
