When all said and done, here is a huge,wide, mostly straight dual carriageway passing a stretch of Hove mostly devoid of pedestrians, crossings everywhere and long central safety divides and we have 30 mph limit. Ridiculous. Pure money spinning.

The speed limit is in place because of those and many other fatalities that have occurred over the years.

I never rush about along that stretch of road because in driving it for 16 years I don't think I've ever not been caught at the traffic lights in either direction. 30mph is plenty along the coast road

There were box radar traps on the side of the road some 25 years before that, whenever they started using them. Kingsway had one of the first in Sussex IIRC

Please demonstrate this 'many' you speak of, specifically along that stretch of road, relating to speed related deaths over the last 30 years.

I have a problem with people who feel the need to speed to another halt from one set of traffic lights to another trying to gain one place in the inevitable queue. The sense of gratification they achieve and the inconsideration they show to others saves them no extra time and it endangers other peoples lives.

I remember over the years that an inordinate number of deaths have been reported on that road, that is why the speed limit is in place. One death is one too many. I'm not going to spend ages trawling the internet to find reports of every case at your behest but here's a few that came up on the first google page:

Even without the deaths, 40mph limit would be ridiculous down there. Parked cars both sides, numerous side streets every 200 yards, bus stops, large junctions, crossings. This is the gateway to our coastline, our beach and beach front, one of our major assets, who in their right mind wants that bounded in by vehicles doing 40mph or slightly more just so cars can reach the next bottle neck a bit quicker?

According to the data provided in the link by Mustafa, there were no deaths upon the stretch of the Kingway where the camera is positioned between 1999 and 2010, there does appear to be one just off the Kingsway which may or may not be the one you link from the Argus in 1999.

The report of the death of the motorcyclist and his passenger, which you linked from two different sources, was put down to drink/drug driving and not speeding, and actually occured further east on the seafront around St. Aubyns Road.

As it happens I think a 30 limit along the seafront road is about right, but I do object to mistruths, conjecture and spin being used to promote an agenda.
