I'll reserve judgement until he's back playing with Orlandi (anyone remember him?).

Until then, he can be dropped for Ince or JFC, poor form should = bench.

David has done absolutely nothing this season and should be dropped immediately. He's not fit to grace the squad at the moment.

If we got a penalty would you trust him to take it with the kind of form he is currently in? He has been so poor this season. A real shame as on his day he is class. Can't see him starting against Forest.

Poyet gave him clear guidance on what to do. He was coached. He knew the team shape, and how we wanted to play.

He looks lost. Blame Dave? Or blame the coaching?

An inept peformance from Dave from start to finish. Was no surprise to see him subbed.

He has been crap this season, but there's a load of shite being talked on here. Two points to be clear on when we're criticising Spanish Dave:

1. He was a key player in our excellent form over the last quarter of last season. Clearly it's not that he's "not good enough". He seems to be a confidence player. We need to get him back into form.
2. He is not alone amongst our attacking options in being on poor form. For my money Buckley's been on even worse form so far this year (though it's a close race). With Orlandi/CMS/Ulloa injured, and Barnes not being given a chance in his preferred role (just behind the main striker) only Lua Lua looks capable of creating and scoring goals for us at the moment.

He spent the majority of his career as a winger. Whereas now he is a lot further back. Maybe he struggles because he has had to adapt the role he plays. He broke forward more last season I think. Haven't seen a mboro type run.

He's Spanish. He's called Dave. He'll put a stint in, and when it's really cold he'll be whipping in beautiful balls from inside right for Leo or Barnse to nod home.

Phew! Scrolled through all the consternation and found the voice of reason at the end. Dave's not had a great start to the season but let's face it, neither has the team as a whole nor many of our players themselves, Kaz, Ince, Ulloa, pre suspension, aside. Last night he played at the front of the midfield diamond and got little service - Ulloa's play wasn't up to his usual standards and I don't recall him laying the ball off to Spanish once. Dave's at his best when he's involved in small triangles, passing and moving and helping build play. We didn't play that way last night apart from perhaps the first 20 mins; I've never seen us lump so many balls forward in a match at the Amex before. It wasn't a match suited to Dave's strengths. Perhaps a fit and eager Mackail-Smith yes, but not Dave. I'm not ready to castigate him yet... the highs were very good and I'm hoping that the form is temporary adage comes to pass here.
