Without wanting to overanalyse this, I think rich or poor works better because:

1. It's part of the original lyric.

2. It both reinforces the cheap nature of the signing and that he will score against both rich teams and poor teams.

This is exciting as I may have been first to come up with D-Rod which was based on US tennis star Andy Roddick aka A-Rod. But as he wears number 9 and bears a passing resmblance in physique and style to the departed Ashley, I rather liked Spanish Barnes. Doubt there will
