The majority of new homes being built near me are being bought by folk moving out from London as they can buy with no or minimal mortgages. Many local people are, therefore, having to move to areas that are cheaper, thus displacing the local populace there, and so it goes on . At this rate there will, at some point in the future, be a mass migration to Burnley.

Completely unrelated to the topic at hand but I was just perusing the episode list of Radio 4's "In Our Time" podcast and there's one titled "The Antikythera Mechanism".

For a brief moment my dense brain thought "huh, why's that NSC poster guesting on a BBC R4 podcast?"

But they won't be affected will they? Because they have dual nationality, or at least should have if they lived there before Brexit. This will surely only affect anyone post Brexit thinking of moving there. And anyway, people from all over the world move there including millions of illegal immigrants. Sure it's aimed at them more than a few leathery Sun readers (not my words). Still, any opportunity to blame everything and anything on Brexit it seems :)
I'm not sure too many illegal immigrants would be in a position to buy a house.

While this isn't solely aimed at Brits, I'd guess we make up a significant proportion of non-EU foreigners in Spain buying property.

Does seem like a tax worth copying. Would prevent the speculative acquisition of property from those overseas.

Let’s see if it is a success and look at copying it in the UK…
I have thought that for years. Unless you are resident in this country with right to work you should either be barred from buying property (as in Denmark) or pay 100% tax.

Anywhere that offers reciprocal healthcare?

Unless you are well off you're be spending retirement here
If you can afford a gaff abroad then a provision for overseas healthcare should be incorporated into fiscal planning wherever it may be.
The European thingy is pretty basic.

You'd be surprised! But the main point is the horse bolted years ago, so this legislation is not aimed at curbing Brits already there pre-Brexit who voted for Brexit. Because it would have zero impact on that.

Because this affects Brits who own homes in Spain due to Brexit?

I know many folk who own second homes across mainland Europe, all but one was and are Remainers.

Several nsc'ers often post from their places in Spain and are openly Remainers.
So is this proposed tax idea on new purchases going forward, and or people who already own down there?

This tax will effect only homes not lived in by the owners. In other words, people who buy to let out on AirBnB.
We've looked at returning to Spain to live but since Brexit it is very hard. They've removed the Golden Ticket that meant someone spending 500,000€ got a free entry.
I've lived in Spain but sold my 3 bedroom apartment that I purchased for 5 million and sold for 8 million*.
I moved all my money back to the UK to purchase my house here but forgot a minor bank account. La Caixa tracked me down and sent me a letter telling me I have this account but it's now been 3 years of trying, including 2 hours in La Caixa Madrid, to unlock the account. Even now it's still locked. Only surprise was its contents, 5400€, nice.

As a bonus some of the leathery, Sun reading ex pat bores who voted for Brexit and thought it wouldn't apply to them are going to be mightily pissed off. Again.
Although the article implies it will only apply to new purchases .... not the ones the "leathery" have already bought. Seems a vague statement so far, with little detail and very unlikely to get passed by the Spanish parliament.

You are the only one repeating this nonsense.
Nah not having that, GB is telling it like it is, the numpties who voted for this clusterfuck who continuously deny their incompetence in doing so deserve to have it thrown back in their collective faces at every opportunity, and believe me, these opportunities are never ending.

Ok, fair enough chief.

They MIGHT not take too much notice though.
