Get rid. Just a shame that penalty missed will protect him even though we would have lost in extra time.

Plays mount, henderson, stones, Maguire, Pickford. Remember he himself has said he only plays players on form. Pope, Maddison and co must be absolutely miffed.
The issue with Maddison was that he shouldn't have gone in the first place as he was clearly injured. Pickford's all round game is better than Pope's.

England fans after the USA - "play Foden"
Also England fans - "should have played Maddison"

Stay. There's no other England manager since Ramsey with such a good tournament record. World Cup semi and quarter final, Euro final, Nations league semi. And that's where we are. We're a good side but not a great side. France have better individual players.

The "tactically inept" comments are particularly crass. The whole country was crying out for us to be more attacking and play Foden after the USA. After that he was more attacking and played Foden

We were the better side last night but they had two moments of real quality in front of goal and we didn't.
I think he probably stays, and deserves another crack if he wants it, but he has an incredible knack for not spotting the obvious in games.

The 2nd for France came after a period of England’s ascendancy just dropping off, as you might expect if you don’t make any changes at the 75min mark.

It just didn’t happen for Foden, who didn’t carry anywhere near the threat of Saka, and you had Rashford in great scoring form who is excellent cutting in from the left. Then you had Henderson who gave his all, but could/should have been changed for a more attacking presence. The Foden change really should have happened on 60mins, Henderson on 70, give your subs some opportunity to get into it.

You then have the things he can’t control, like your star man missing a pen. Unlike Pearce, Waddle, Ince, Batty, Beckham, Saka, Rashford et al Kane is our pen taker, takes loads of the bloody things under pressure. To win a tournament, in the big moments the big players step up, not down.

Perhaps that’s why Kane is still at Spurs, being nearly great maybe it suits him. While he hasn’t won major honours for all his goals, he could have defined his career with England, and perhaps he has.

Love some of the comments on here
'Scumbag'
'Hate him'
'Didn't watch it but...'

Jesus wept

Fortunately I was in the pub last night with people who have a mentality greater than a 5 year old - all agreed we played very well and just weren't clinical enough, which is more of a shame considering we were very clinical for much of the tournament. Kane puts the second penalty away and who knows what would've happened, but france are a bloody good team and we kept their front four very quiet for much of the game. Very even game overall.

Gutted this morning but whatever happens to GS he deserves a huge amount of credit for how he's transformed the England set up since his time working in the youth set up. We've been embarrassingly bad on so many occasions in tournaments in my lifetime, even squads full of riches on paper. We certainly haven't been an embarrassment in tournaments under Southgate and his record beats all other England managers bar one

Undoubtedly, must go. Completely inept.

Posted this before reading the rest of the thread, more support than I imagined. He's had his extended stay already and it feels like a natural time to hand the reigns over anyhow, even before considering his shortcomings.

His selections are dull and predictable. We need a manager who will pick the best inform players not the most experienced players

I have long wanted him out but he did a good job this time around and we played bravely last night, no shame in that defeat. No longer feel strongly either way. No vote option I can use

I'm no fan of Southgate, he screams average and I cant see further than him being a championship manager at the lower end of the table. That said he is clearly good at managing at a human level and I think the players like him and as others have said, who else? I think Potter has a few more months at least until TB gets bored of him?

Didn’t watch it, but on results it would appear Southgate is weak. First sign of serious opposition and we fail.
Same as with previous England managers then...

I think the problem is somewhere else... basically: need more quality. The best nations have 15-20 players who would all get regular game time at all of the best clubs... England doesn't have that, and never really had. Most of them play in very good clubs obviously but some like eg John Stones wouldn't play for City if he wasn't from England. But I think the trend is positive. 10 years ago only maybe 3-4 could have played in Real/Barca-sized clubs, today it is like 9 or 10 and if you can get that to 15-20 the chances would improve more than with any manager change.

Think the game yesterday was made for a Solly March winner from 50 meters but other than that I find it hard to blame Southgate too much. Think it was a good performance and acceptable result.

Why is he weak ? He’s the strongest manager consistently performing the best results at major tournaments we’ve ever had.

Can’t really see what he got wrong this tournament. Tactically we were sound, Mbappe was kept quiet, we had a few players who didn’t perform, bit unlucky on some big decisions and Kane bottled our big chance

Bloke is tactically inept and should go.
It would quite nice if Kane could announce his international retirement as well but that’s just because I don’t like having a cheat on the pitch as captain

he’s clearly a thoroughly decent chap and on a human level the best England manager that we’ve had for years but has two issues for me.
1. He said that he would only pick form players which he blatantly did not, which sends very mixed messages to every prospective England player.
2. He’s just too predictable, very much in the mold of CH. Football has moved on and versatility is the name of the game.

I speak regularly with colleagues from Spain, Italy and Germany and their view is that they would always rather play England because you always know what you are going to get.

No, but did we win? He is fine when we play weaker nations (mainly because the players are just better) but as soon as we play someone of supposedly similar standing we know the outcome.

Don’t even entertain it mate.

People on here would be so quick to call Brightonian Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal fans plastics for not putting the money, effort & mileage in watching their side. Yet become England's biggest fans once every two years and seem to know it all.

You clearly do so ignore it.

So he’s not tactically inept, but the players aren’t as good or capable as we think.

I’d hate to see what you make of that loser in charge of the Brighton team at the moment
