Whilst they are chronically shortstaffed and that won't change in the short term, there is absolutely no reason why Sasta can't offer a service to Falmer on Friday and Tuesday. There are enough spare trains (because of the emergency timetable) and there should be enough crew to at least run say 3 Lewes shuttles at the very least say at 18.15/18.45 and 19.15 using an 8 or 12 coach train. It is their emergency timetable so they can adapt and amend it as they see fit.

How have they been allowed to get so short staffed? Is it simply due to the fact that the government are in their pockets,they know they're getting the government funding whatever happens,they simply do not give a flying **** do they.

You're right, it's not that they can't it's simply that they won't. Driver and Guard, 8 car train just run a shuttle Brighton - Falmer - Lewes & back and the same after the game, if a train is properly loaded then you can get a lot of people away on an 8 car train

Doesn't that put the club in breach of its planning requirements ? I thought sustainable transport was a pre-condition. If this situation carries on then anyone who usually travels by train is going to have to turn up at the stadium and hope for the best with parking. Its a complete mess.

What can the club - or anyone else - do when the area's prime transport provider just shrugs and couldn't give a toss? In an ideal or even in a normal world, government would give them a major slap, and make them provide the service to the community they were paid for. But neither the transport provider nor the relevant government minster gives a toss. It's like the whole economy of the South East doesn't matter. Utterly bizarre.

Time for the club to stop paying SASTA anything at all IMHO. SASTA are always pushing the envelope at providing the least possible service they can get away with. Now that they've got the green light to stop providing services for midweek home matches i.e the majority of home matches thanks to Sky, then it's time for the club to take the f*ckers to court. Else they're just being allowed to take the p*ss with no financial repercussions on themselves.

Not sure re Saturday games - the trains include 'football specials' so these may continue ? Evening games (and we'll have loads because of the Sky love for us) are ****** though, strike or no strike.

If they stick to the 17:00 cut off on Saturdays looks as if we'll be stuffed then too

Guess we'll have to wait and see but I think this is directly in relation to the emergency timetable covering the evening games though, and as there are literally only 1/2 trains scheduled to be stopping there they've decided to have none. Timetable is currently showing trains every 10-15 mins on Saturday 10th (first Sat home game) Brighton/Falmer and return which sounds normal for a Saturday matchday

Guess we'll have to wait and see but I think this is directly in relation to the emergency timetable covering the evening games though, and as there are literally only 1/2 trains scheduled to be stopping there they've decided to have none. Timetable is currently showing trains every 10-15 mins on Saturday 10th (first Sat home game) Brighton/Falmer and return which sounds normal for a Saturday matchday

I'm totally confused now. Thought the temporary timetable was for 4 weeks, starting 11th July? I don't see any end to this mess. If GoAhead or whatever they're called get DOO in place won't the drivers refuse to shut the doors .... and so it will rumble on.

It does beggar belief doesn't it. The "emergency timetable" appears to be as inflexible as a normal timetable.. I cannot believe that they have a bigger "emergency" than the moving of 10-12000 people on Friday and Tuesday evening! You would think that they would be falling over themselves to at least be seen to try and help..

Exactly. Its a backdoor beeching and I bet Southern (collective term I know) are happy with that. They may just have to re open Falmer match days because the Albion give them a wedge of cash.

The pre conditions will simply become conditions of the negotiation

Exactly - perhaps some of the people on here who are so quick to attack the guards can vent their spleen on Sasta instead and actually get them to honour their commitments at least in part.

Lets get one thing clear my spleen with the ****tard guards this week was in ADDITION to the cluster**** that SASTA have already created.

Besides I think the guards have done enough damage this week to public support. Well done them. I expect another strike soon when the talks inevitably break down. At the moment its clear pressure was evidently brought to bear on the relevant parties round the table and each side will declare a "win" because that's what happens to save face.
