I believe that Radio Sussex should get somebody who has played for either or perferably both club but isnt employed by either to summarise who could then give a more objective summary. An ideal candidate last night would have been somebody like Gerry Armstorng but perhaps the purse doesnt stretch to that. Much as I like and appreciate what Paul Camillin does it is impossible for him to be critcal and objective in his summary to or about his fellow workers.

I actually enjoy the commentary but must confess to being more than a little shocked at the reaction today of those that attended the game. My understanding was we were under constant attack for the first 20 mins and could have conceded 2 or 3. Then we picked up and finished the first half ok. 2nd half we appeared to dominate proceedings and looked like the only team likely to push on and win it. It seemed that Watford did little to trouble us 2nd half with the goal seemingly coming out of nowhere.

Imagine my surprise today when I read how the travelling fans had seen the game not least the fact that it appeared to be one of our worse performances for many a year!

All radio stations are biased to there local side, I listened to Radio Leicester when we played there recently and lost 1-0 and he abused brighton big time, saying they were the worst team they had played and didnt deserve to be top of the league and that Leicster should have won by 5 at least. This.

Paul's day job is to promote the Albion in a good light and he's pretty decent at it. BUT the BBC demands at least a modicum of impartiality, and the listening fans want more than to be told that every Albion penalty concession or red card is 'ridiculous'.

A clear conflict of interest I am afraid.

I turned the radio off thinking that were the better side. I came on here to find out quite the opposite.

We play brilliantly on the radio and not so well when we I go and watch them. I think we might get promoted on the radio so I`m not going to matches anymore.

Local radio is mean't to be impartial in it's assessment, otherwise they'd have the audience turning off in droves.

Plus they can't go around slagging off the players or management or they'll be faced with an Alex Ferguson style refusal to give post match interviews and juicy midweek news stories.

Recalling my original interview with BBC SCR in 1998, then producer Jeff Maskell said "One of the things that I like about your broadcasting style is that you're biased!"

There has to be a balance.

They can't attack individuals on a personal level, then expect them to be pally afterwards, but that doesn't mean they can't report the game fairly.

I'm more likely to 'turn off' from tuning in, if I think that the impression they are giving of the game is nothing more than a fantasy commentary.

Look at the comments on this thread. People who listened seriously thought we were hard done by last night, as the 'better team' on the night. Its utter nonsense.

Interview for WHAT position though?

Something like the phone-in is very different from the actual match coverage.

I think a local Radio station can afford to show some bias when they only have one team to follow, but if they've got multiple teams to cover it's in no-ones interest to start biasing comments to one particular set of fans as you'll just lose half your audience.

If you want truely biased opinion, I suggest you try phoning Alan Green on 6-0-6 and try to disagree with him. He'll just cut you off mid-call if you do. I truely think he is a prize tw@t of the highest order.

BBC Sussex is pants one step up from hospital radio - to be fair to them they cant really say the team are playing like a bunch of twats. Was dissapointed that the bloke intervieiwing gus didnt press him on the continually phrase of I will go home and ask him to clarify what he means - but i suppose this would have necessitated a brain and or a degree in journalism? Any one who thinks we deserved a point is deluded - worst ablion performance under Poyet - was truly clueless. Was a nice trip down memory lane though.....

The issue is probably that BBC don't pay anywhere near enough to entice anyone decent to do the summarising - hence why we get Camilian and Aspinall doing the job. Don't forget Camilian will be there at each away game anyhow as he works as the press officer for the club and probably doesn't even get paid!

The commentary is not all that brilliant in the first place , they get sidetracked into talking a load of old bollocks while the action is taking place because you can hear the crowd reactions. They describe a period of play but you don't know which team they're talking about until they mention a players name about 30 seconds later , sometimes getting the players muddled up. It would be handy for us to know whether Painter or Paynter has the ball and be consistent with calling Vicente and Reyes by one name and not Vicente/Rodriguez or Jara/Reyes as its confusing with picturing 13 Albion players on the pitch.

Totally agree with this! Warren Aspinall is good value for money though (unintended humour of his) when the play is in the doldrums, as is/was Sir Norman Gall. :)
