I was utterly astonished to hear from somebody this morning, that the radio coverage last night, gave the impression that we 'did okay'.

I never really noticed that the radio was not giving a true reflection (as obviously if I'm listening, I'm not there to see it...). If they were anything other than scathing last night though, they were doing their listeners a disservice. At the very least the commentator has to say it how it is.

Johnny Byrne is pretty fair, I think, when I've heard him after the home games.

For the away games, they haven't had anyone remotely objective since Norman Gall.

Camillin (Press Officer), Aspinall (Scouting role) and Chivers (1901 host) all work for the club, so are not really in a position to lay into Gus or the players.

From the Sky reports from Salako, they seemed to be saying we were ok as well, sounded pretty even to me, with us pushing hard towards the end. I wasn't there so have no idea of the reality. It's all about opinions, and different people see the same game very differently.

We should have been 3-0 down within the first 20 minutes.
+ we looked better in the second half but only because we were passing the ball a bit, before whacking it forward to nobody as we did in the first half.
Watford were very average, but they won every single ball in the air and they played better football than us, and deserved to win ultimately

first half = woeful
second half = slightly better but that isn't really saying much.

We had some spells of good possession with no end product.

If Sky Sports consider this to be us doing OK then I guess it is (as they know everything and should never be questioned about anything, ever)

If Salako was saying ..."we were ok".....I,m sure that he meant that we were equally poor as Watford. It was 'even'........Watford were rubbish, so were we........but we did at least 'win' the rubbish stakes eventually, by conceding a soft goal and managing 90 minutes of football without stringing two passes together and the ultimate accolade of not a single effort on target.

Well done the players in that team. They must be very proud of themselves.

We didn't have a shot on target so in that sense it was awful. But we didn't look like losing in the second half really. Vincelot's assessment in the Argus pretty much tallies with what I thought. If we play like that we'll be in the crap but we haven't played like that the whole season and there's no reason to think we will from now onwards, especially when we've got some of our more creative players back and firing.

Comments from radio did seem quite positive - including bits like 'Harper's got a fantastic big kick on him' which i guess shows how they viewed it..

We had only one little period of decent possession, right after the break but other than that we were crap.

In fact, does anyone who went last night think we played well? I know people say it's about opinions but I'd genuinely be surprised if there was one person generally happy with witnessing that debacle.

Fourth from bottom CANNOT be very average.

Eleventh is VERY average. Oh, that's where we are.

Well if this helps, I thought we were rubbish.

Only positive of my day was whizzing round the M25 on my motorbike at 130mph and not getting stopped by the cops!

I was justing pointing out to the O/P that the Southern Counties comments were not necessarily false, or at least not deliberately so.

I understood your comments.

I'm not buying it though. If these people (who are being paid for their opinions), are so one-eyed that they offered no critical assesment of last night's performance, then they are the wrong people for the role.

If Gary Chivers did not see any problems in our performance (in terms of our set up, lack of technique or lack of commitment) then he is either a hopelessly myopic Albion fan (like Paul C) and thus unable to comment objectively, or he's willfully deluding himself (and the listeners).

I think the OP is right, if you just listened to BBC Sussex, you could be forgiven for thinking we were unlucky last night. But being the local station, they only seem to give out the positives. Reading people who went opinions on here, it sounded like chalk and cheese.

Sorry wasn't meant as a criticism. It was more to echo HKFC's point about whether the commentators gave a true reflection of the game. We fans do not have to be answerable for our comments so can be as candid as we like, obviously the summarisers need to have more measured responses but I wonder as HKFC does whether they are doing the game a disservice by playing down how bad it really was last night. That was akin to the days of Adams or the last days of Magoo.

Thanks - this is the crux of it.

We were unlucky only in terms of the players we had missing. As for the game itself, the scoreline flattered us.

The commentator ended the first half by saying the words "and Brighton deserve to go in at 0-0 for the way they finished the half". Now, I wasn't there last night so maybe I'm very wrong, but from what I could make out was happening on the commentary and what I have read on here there is no way we deserved anything other than to be at least two goals behind after 45 minutes.

I turned on Sky and literally the first words I heard John Salako say were "Watford are absolutely dominating this game".

Sums it up, entirely.
