Collectively dodgy, but also could do something clever in the same breath.
Luckily, stains will run out of puff and give up some chances, as is their way

A bit worrying. Need a change of shape and a strong showing in the second half. Don't doubt their effort, but something isn't clicking.

They’re pressing us CONSTANTLY and very well it has to be said, with real intention to win the ball (not like we do) …hopefully they will struggle to keep it up!!

We were second best throughout that half, and that's being generous to our performance. Southampton cut us open and walked through us at will while we made error after error after error. We were slow to react and unable to keep hold of the ball. Not a great first half.

However, despite playing so poorly we still created several chances so if we do that whilst being crap surely if we buck our ideas up and play halfway to what we're capable of there's a goal or two there for us. Or we can continue like the first half and get smacked out of sight.

That Broja looks a find.

Moder for Groß would be a sensible substitution, need more solidity and legs in midfield

Not a great half but we are missing our captain and both Adams. All of whom are hard to replace.

Also 2 away games in 3 days is always a drain. Remember Southampton have been at home for both and have improved loads recently.

GP often makes changes at the break and it’s a long way from over.

Remember Sanchez 1st half v 2nd half when was it now….oh yeah 3 days ago!

Game still there to be won so let’s get behind the team.

For a team setup with a philosophy of possession we ain’t half shite at passing

The idea of keeping possession at the back and playing through the press makes sense, sadly we simply do not have the requisite personnel with pace to actually transition once we’ve beaten the press. Every team seems to launch at us with numbers whilst we amble up the field with some nice passes culminating in the whole thing breaking down about 25 yards out and the inevitable attempt to play Lamptey/Cucurella in behind a full back with no space to run into.

‘Backs to walls stuff, could been a lot worse than HT score actually is…’ All very very par for the course when we play Saints really!

Hope for better 2nd half. But I think we all know what’s going to happen here.

Would like ti see Cucu moved to LB in a back four - that would maybe get it across to Burn that he's playing CB, not as some sort of LWB. Veltman at RB, and Lamptey further upfield in a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 set up. Gross replaced by March or Moder to play on the left of midfield.
Concerned about Mwepu - Johnny seems to keep mentioning him giving the ball away! Strange that some players we buy spend months not playing or out on loan before getting anywhere near the first team (Mac Allister, Moder, Caicedo, etc.), whilst Mwepu goes pretty much straight in.
