pretty poor 2nd half. Looked well out of our depth but yet still should of scored.

No doubt we will be in a very similar position next season unless we can get lucky with some quality coming in.

Saints are a side that have aspirations of top 10 , we are a fair bit off that still.

Take the point , pretty much safe . Big summer to try to improve

As well as your top sides many who have surprised us play the same week in in and out. Burnley and Sheff Utd do not have better players. Hovever they have a better team that is similar every week. For our next game apart from Dunk.Webster,Burn,Ryan and Maupay we have no idea who Potter will pick. It is now a standing joke but to progress would hope next season less changes.

And yet he had his contract as a Premier League manager extended this season and you do what exactly? I'll go with his approach on this rather than your one dimensional, out dated, uninformed thoughts thanks.

And btw, it's fewer not less.

Well we could try to emulate Burnley and Sheffield United, and even Crystal Palace (they also play the same way every game with the same guys).

Or we could try to play modern attractive football.

It looked to me like they targetted Lamptey last night, both his height and his tendency to tuck in narrowly which might be a Potter thing anyway, since that's how we defended Norwich. In the first half they didn't have the quality to exploit it but fair play to Hasenhuttl, he changed it at half time and they stuck a load of diagonals over the top down our left. The ball from Redmond was absolutely key in the goal though, Lamptey far too narrow but the ball into space was perfectly weighted and caught him in two minds between trying to intercept and getting goal side of Ings. As soon as Ings got the ball it was a goal.

However, talking of perfect weight, his awareness and perfect throw in set up our goal in the first place. Yes they switch off and allow Murray to mug them for space but Lamptey was instantly aware of it.

He's been MoTM in at least two of his starts so far and, I agree, will go on to be a high quality player.

Indeed. My criticism was meant to signal the same thing really, and serve as a reminder that one bad game means nothing. Worth thinking about, the next time one feels inclined to launch into Pröpper or Stephens, perhaps. OK, so they may have had more bad games than good this season, but these guys would slot into a Sheffield United, Burnley or Palace side.

OK, well you and I appear to differ on what we want to watch at the football.

I presume your ideal man to deliver Burnley, Sheffield United or Palace type football would be someone like BIg Sam, or Mark Hughes, or Pulis? Or Maybe Chris Hughton?

Dale very nearly DID slot into Burnley didn't he?

Sheffield United have Norwood running the show who couldn't get a start in our midfield.

As the saying goes there is more than one way to skin a cat and Burnley and Sheffield Utd have found a formula that works for them. However, its difficult to see how Burnley for example can ever hope to improve on where they are now. They will probably do fine as they are all the time they have a good manager, good players and a style of play that best utilises those strengths. But I'd say there is a very good chance that if any element of that goes. eg Dyche leaving this summer or their best midfielder leaving on a bosman for example and they could quickly struggle. They don't have the money to buy their way out of a set back. Our plan which may or may not work is a little different.

We play in a style similar to the big boys, we look to bring through youth both through the ranks and by buying talent from the lower leagues, we try to buy smarter, we augment this with foreign signings from 'alternative' leagues looking for value and players we can develop to sell on. We survive in the PL and incrementally improve, sell our high value players, reinvest the profit, rinse and repeat in the hope that each cycle we go through gradually improves the team and squad and incrementally increases the quality and therefore the success on the pitch.

At some point in the future if you do this right you might be able to sustain a challenge for european football and the odd cup. There are a million things that can and will go wrong but as a strategy its got to be more sustainable? There are teams all over europe who do versions of this. Leverkusen, Ajax, Valencia, Lyon, Southampton, Spurs even.

What I cannot understand are the divs who are screaming 10 mins into a game because a pass has gone astray? You need to be supporting Liverpool or Real Madrid or something if you are seeking perfection. We are a work in progress and very early in the project too. We are going to lose games, we are going to buy shit players, we are going to lose good players and good coaches, that is why TB is trying to bring talent in at director level and in recruitment, players and coaches are transient good ones move up, bad ones move down to their level but if you consistently bring in good talent you gradually increase the level of the club as a whole. This is going to take years and possibly decades...

The counter argument being that other teams in the same situation are on the beach, eg PaLLLLLace. The manager deserves credit for keeping their players on their toes.

Well he didnt do it for the best part of the season as they were languishing down the bottom for a large part of it.

Dont disagree he got them motivated but pressure to stay up and the implications it brings far outways the prospect of keeping players on their toes.
