This morning, we were 11-8 to go down, which means it wasn't likely. Tonight, the odds are out to 6-4, which means it's slightly less likely than it was a few hours ago. We got a point - and denied a team below us two more. The amount of handwringing on this thread is weird.

Well done! I'm now on cloud nine and as the Monkees say "I'm a believer"..........:rave::rave::rave::rave::rave::rave::rave:

No, what we have to look at is the teams around us occasionally winning games and picking up three points - sometimes even against one of the 'Big Six'.

Nobody is really saying 'go for it' in a daft way - some people seem to think that any variation on the current tactics would automatically be 'gungho' - there are alternatives! Playing like we generally did in September and October would be a start...............................

But those teams around us are still below us. 15th on current form 15th in the table, paints a picture of consistency - not pretty, but consistent.

Looking at the game when the equaliser went in, I did fear the worse, but if anything we got a bit more into the game then. So that's a positive.

One point behind where the tracker said we should be – after a BONUS point tonight. Not in the relegation zone. Didn't lose the game. A point away from home.

Yeah, let's call it a day and give up now, shall we? :dunce:

Nice to see some posters come out of the woodwork having had nothing to REALLY moan about for a while!

The same thing applies this year to avoid relegation, as it did last year to get promotion. Match or better the results of the teams aound/below us, will see us safe.
There are just 5 points between 12th & 20th.
Obviously we all want to win and have better results, but we are doing ok.

Quite. Bookies happy to give 6-4 means they think the real probability is no more than 35%...

The miserable bedwetters on here make it sound like we are all but certain to go down - only doubt is whether we finish bottom or not.

The truth is that Chris Hughton is an excellent manager and to keep this squad in the Premier League will be a great achievement.

Can't wait for the West Ham game.

Precisely as I said earlier in the thread, the fans of the teams below us think they are shite too...

Aerial duels and crosses from deep areas are Duffy and Dunk’s speciality - this is their bread and butter.

So for large periods of the first half our game plan was to hoof it to Long. No kidding. Surprise surprise, they weren’t unsettled #saintsFC

In the second half we decide to bring on Carrillo - our 6ft 3 CF who specialises in headers.

I thought hmmm... this makes a little more sense. At which point #saintsFC decide to seriously reduce the number of deliveries into the box. It’s beyond confusing.

Brighton also love to pack the midfield while sitting deep.

So Mauricio drops Boufal, Lemina and Gabbi - three of our most technical players who specialise in receiving the ball on the turn and working in tight spaces. Boufal and Lemina are our best dribblers too. Ugh #saintsFC

Apparently they are 'this year's Middlesbrough' - I thought that was us??

I suggest we fight them for it.

We're shitter than you, is surely the evening accolade we were all born to chase?!?

Heh...

We're all massive tits, sitting around in our pj's claiming we know better... Well I don't, my wife doesn't... I'll keep my faith invested with Chris and the boys.

Come on Brighton... Let's start enjoying this ride a wee bit more than some spoilt fat 12 year old kid crying on a fairground ride that they got their parents to pay £8.50 for.

Log flume ready my arse.

This toffee apple is SHIT.

etc.

My goldfish is already dead.

I wish some supposed Albion fans would just F off, support your team when the going gets tough not moan all the fecking time. Six aways without a point tonight was a little bit of progress.

Going of at a tangent, having just watched Manchester City on Match of the Day I can't get over the one second cheer their goals receive. It seems winning has become so routine that goals barely warrant more than a bit of a "yes" from their support.

One good thing about struggling through our season. At least we get to go properly batshit mental with each goal because we need them.

Our performance tonight when we were level far exceeded when we were winning.

The problem is obvious.

Drew, I fail to see how a 1-1 draw, even if we were out of sorts can be achieved (at this level) via a dire performance?!? I don't think we were massively lucky to be honest... I agree we're not playing 'well', but dire would surely be reserved for a 4 or 5 nil demolition?!?

I don't like the tactics but, a point is always better than an agonising 3-2 or 4-3.

Let's keep the faith, and likewise until the absolute utmost need, let's refrain from drawing out the long knives.

Back from the game now so will expand.

I would suggest that Soton looked fitter than our players, stronger (in that we are easily muscled off the ball) and that once we went ahead, we sat back and invited them to attack.

When we lost the ball it seemed the first thought was to get back into shape whereas Soton players immediately pressed the man in possession. That probably explained more than anything why our players gave the ball away so easily. Our crossing was very poor.

So, in my view our performance was dire but we managed to scrape a point. Against Chelsea, we lost 4-0 but our performance was much better! That is of course my opinion. You can of course agree or disagree.
