Southampton - can they still get automatic.

OK, I know it's early in the season, but have they left themselves too much to do to get automatic.

Assume 2 points per game to get in the top 2; 92 points.

They're on 15 after 12, leaving 77 from 34. Just over 2 1/4 points per game. Doesn't leave a lot of room for any spells for the rest of the season. To this in context; it means they had this form for the whole season, they would get 104 points.

And us; well 25 from 12. Meaning 67 from 34. That's still 2 points per game.

I'm not saying the can't, just that it's going to take a good performance...

All the time the chairman want to pick/run the team, they are going nowhere. When will these rich wanky owners of clubs realize, that just because they pay the wages and sign the cheques. That does not mean they know what it takes to manage the team. Said before a ball was kicked, that Saints would not finish in the top two, now I think they will do well to get in the play-offs. Makes all the so called experts look a bit stupid doesn't it, bit like saying Chelsea will win the Prem. Any fool can be a pundit, takes a bit more brain power to form a proper thought out opion.

I think they will, individually they are brilliant, they just need to 'click.'

Heres hoping that nutjob chairman causes the club to implode and another change of manager happens later in the season

They can but they have already shown us they can choke so here's hoping they keep coming close and then losing.

Personally it would give me a nice feeling inside if saints missed out on the playoffs by a point or 2 after we take at least 4 off them this season! Obviously they should get a good run going, but when they have had a rough patch they have been losing games, where we have been drawing through our "bad patch"

Still early doors, of course, but it's interesting to see that some of the divisons favourties this year, S'ton, Swindon and Charlton, are not in the running as yet - and I don't think anyone, even the most optimistic of Albions fans, had us tipped to be in this position at this time.

No, play-offs. They are not in the right shape to go on the kind of run they will need to get automatic. At least Norwich last year had a championship squad that just needed a change of manager to make them click. Saints have a good League 1 squad, and thats a different thing altogether

i wouldnt say they couldnt, there's plenty of season to go, but i dont think they will. too much uncertainty off-pitch to settle down.

We have not lost against them, we won't lose against them. They are not good enough. The league table reflects this.

They have a new manager bounce going on at the minute but if they have some stability they will be there or there abouts.

What's the betting they beat us in the play-off final? And don't blame me if that now happens.

Bit of 20/20 hindsight there, who thought they had a Championship squad at the time? They had a very good squad, so do Southampton. Look at what they did last year too, I bet they were in a worse position then than they are now but they went on a fantastic run.

I still think they'll be in the promotion race. As will Huddersfield, Sheffield Wednesday are already sneaking up the table again too.
